This has happened to me many times with various salons closing in on me. Honestly, I think all you are doing is spreading out the customers farther and farther thus the money. I also couldn't do to another salon owner. Maybe I'm not a good business person in that sense but why hurt someone else. Like the guy that opened up near my salon...a customer came in and was telling me..."The new owner of XYZ salon is so rich, he doesn't need the money from the tanning, he's just doing it to "keep buzy"...gee thanks! Open a business that you don't need and take the money out of the pockets of people that do need it!!

^^ my sypathies. I feel your pain. When I opened 2 years ago, we mapped the city and all salons. Found a large hole in south side with the nearest salon about 2 city miles away (large chain store). Three months after we opened a different chain openned between us. The 2 chains are price whoring it up and we are caught in it. This are getting a lot better this year though.

If it is a salon striving to make a positive difference in the industry...I say go elsewhere. If it is not then I say go for it!

If your business model and operating methods were devised by reading posts on tanning forums, you're f%cked.
If you can't bring something to the table, save your money. If you're not greater than or equal to, you're not competition. If you think high school kids are a money maker, you're nuts.

Why in the WORLD would you open across the street from a established salon with multi locations, that just does NOT make ANY sense...no matter what you would loose money doing that... just does not make sense at all.... is that the ONLY street in town or what?

the reason why i would open up a salon across the street is because there is alot of residential in all 4 directions and we have a much nicer salon/beds and most important service....

we are not trying to cut throat but some of these "salon" have to offer more then they do....we are going after the higher end market , which they are not set up to do...

they have tan america beds (lower end ones about 90%) the other 10% ( 1 stand-up / no facial ) and a mystic.... wow... not much too offer....that is where we are different.....
