Franchise question from newbie

I am new to this forum. I am contemplating buying an exisiting Executive Tan (franchise) tanning salon. My gut is telling me: don't do it, too risky" , but I am an experienced business owner and have always wanted to own a tanning salon.
Any advise? I would appreciate any input any of you have!!
Thanks!

If you are the set on the tanning industry as your new adventure, research, research, research and open your own. Getting involved with a franchise is like saying "hey, I will do all the work and why don't you take all the money."

Re: Franchise question from newbie

If you have an interest in franchising, they MUST provide you with the information regarding how many of their franchises failed and why. Get that report.

Re: Franchise question from newbie

I would STRONGLY advise you talk to CURRENT Executive Tan franchisees first!! PM me and I can give you one -- they were in contact with a few dozen others, and, last I heard, contemplating a class action suit against the Franchisor.....

Then again, maybe that information alone speaks volumes...

PM me if you want to talk further -

Re: Franchise question from newbie

There was an Executive Tans rigth down the street from my house and was for sale 4 different times this year alone, always under new management. Now, it was just for sale and sold to a new owner and is no longer an Executive Tans, it has changed its name.

I see Executive Tans for sale everyday.

Re: Franchise question from newbie

It seems to me, from everything I've read on this site, success is almost purely dependant on the actions, choices, and (most of all) hard work of the owner/operators. Based upon that 'assumption', what does a franchise do for you that you can't do for yourself? and is it worth the $$. You can have a franchise and make bad choises and fail, you can go at it yourself and make good choices and build a sold business.
