Keep lotions under lock and key??

I would like to get an idea of how everyone keeps their lotions.

1. On open shelves
2. In glass display, no lock
3. In glass display, locked up
4. Other...??

Ours are on open shelves behind the desk and my manager would like to have put them in locked displays in the waiting area for better customer viewing. Haven't had a problem with theft yet.

Survey says...........

Re: Keep lotions under lock and key??

Mine on in a hutch behind the counter. Most customers try a packet before purchasing, so we have not had any problems so far..

Re: Keep lotions under lock and key??

We keep ours on open shelves off to the side of the counter. I personally want my clients to be able to have access to them especially while they are waiting for their bed to become available. Theft has never been an issue.

In a cabinet with doors, no lock. The locks are in the drawer waiting to be installed but I'm not sure I'll even install them.

Some behind counter on open shelves and some in JA towers in lobby unlocked. In the past 8+ years I have had approx. 1/2 doz. bottles walk out. (and some of that was employee theft)

Re: Keep lotions under lock and key??

Open shelves alongside the counter. Had 1 bottle walk, called client and made him pay for it (last one in the store and was looking at it while I cleaned the bed for him)

I keep a certain number of bottles (3) on the shelf at any one time so I can see at a glance and check with the computer for ones sold. The backstock is locked in my office.

Re: Keep lotions under lock and key??

From a sales perspective, which do you think is better (ie. more sales)

Having the customer be able to get up close to lotions without help, maybe more impulse purchases.
or
Having the salon person get the item to present to the customer, educate, close the sale?

(who care about points and rep, this info is GOLD!!, who am I kidding, I care)

Re: Keep lotions under lock and key??

I like interacting with the clients... explain a couple ingredients that in a particular lotion and what they do. My counter is customer friendly, they can step back and pick up the lotions if I happen to be with someone else of cleaning a bed. Not many do, but on occasion they will.

When showing lotions, I always ask "Tingle or no, bronzer or no, cooling or no, Reaction to nut oils or no... Then I will pick 3-4 products and set on counter for their assessment. Usually the scent is what sells the product.

Each market is different. Ours are OUT -OF -REACH for a reason! It seems the peoples that pull up in their Caddys / Lexus / Mercedes are the theives. Now we know how they can afford those Autos!

Re: Keep lotions under lock and key??

We keep 3 bottles of each out for the customers to smell and pick up. Customers like to touch and smell, we have only had 2 bottles gone in 9 yrs. Maybe we have an honest customer base or watch dog employees.
