Scare tactics? Since when is the truth a scare tactic? Also, We don't "use" our clients. We educate our clients about the importance of a good quality lotion. My husband and I personally try all lotions before we start selling them in our salon. We don't sell lotions because our distributor says it's popular or that we will sell a lot of it, we sell it because it is of great quality. FYI- Auntie Tan went out of business 4 months after we opened, Video and Tan closed last month. I guess we must be doing something right! As for the road less traveled, WE make our own roads.

no really-- but seriously I hope you do not actually compare it to Beef Jerky.
That is like three steps back...after barely moving one step forward in trying to educate clients. Remember how many baking/ microwave references Auntie Tan used to get the public afraid in the first place.
As for my sense of humor...I definately have one. Warped as it may be.. I do not find negative jokes funny when trying to educate clients. The devil is in the details-- and there is a always a way to say things that come off less harsh...and CAST LESS SHADOWS.

On these sites we can be a little more vocal and free with what we say. Or should I say how we say things. Ohh I also could sell moldy bread to a baker if I had too. But that does not mean I would.

I am glad you found a balance that works. However, newbies might read what you suggest and wing it...

I have taken tours from a few salon owners in the last few years that DO use scare tactics to sell upgrades and lotion. That is just wrong. JMHO

No scare tatics honey,
Its called a sense of humor, And my clients love it. Lets look at the facts before judging. Everyone has their own way of selling, i personally fit my sales techniques to fit my customer, if its a business person of course this would not be said, But I sell lotion better than "bread"...so I will stick to my high quality lotions while you pay attention to "bread",some people need to learn how to have a sense of humor while selling, and not be so fake

Did you skim right over that part hun?

The truth is not fake...It is all in the presentation..and thank you for clarifying that it depends WHO your talking to.
The devil is in the details ..remember that!

Just wait until your in the back or office one day...and you hear one of your staff members trying to be funny like you...to the wrong person. Then you will see. Careful what you say and do. And who you do it to. JMHO

Let me 'splain further as much as I love debating this horse died...a long time ago.
I w i l l s p e a k s l o w e r t h i s t i m e .

Whatever you do keep it positive!! And steer clear of any possible negative connotations that could subconsciously be taken away from said humorous remark.

I really could give a RATS *** WHAT YOU DO IN YOUR SALON…
Fine do what you want—Clarify the posts you make as to not confuse already naïve newbies. JMHO

How about-
Use a picture of a dirty donkey saying
'Don't be an *** - use a salon quality Lotion prior to and ***-ter tanning!'

Coconut, there is a list "Top 10 reasons YOU should use lotion" on this site somewhere. I copied and pasted it, then printed it out and hung it in every tanning room in my salon, plus the lobby. I tried the search function, but couldnt find it. NeonBeach, where are you? I'm sure you can find it.

no, it was an old post. Maybe it wasnt top ten, but it seems like it was. I know it was "Reasons you should use lotion" and I'm pretty sure it was numbered. When I go back to the salon tommorrow I will look.
