Thanks for not revealing the name of the disty whose sales rep made a little boo boo by selling a little product to just anyone for less than he sells it to you for. I'm sure it is a fine, upstanding organization with nothing but your best interests, and the best interests of the industry at heart.

so its ok for dist to sell to anyone is what you are saying. these people were not authorised to buy from a distributor. so it's ok for people to sell to anyone then turn around and wonder where ebay gets their lotion stock.

thats using the ol brain.

HBT6872, why fire the distributor it was a sales rep that made the mistake?

If the employee has been of good standing and valuable to your company I would have a talk with her. Explain this is inappropriate and abusing her privelages. I would then take away her lotion discounts. Tell her she will have to earn them back or if she has been lacking then I would let her go.

As for the distributor if you like the company and are sure this is not their policy and they were unaware of this then I would stay. If you don't get proper help from the distributor then I would go.

The distributors that I have worked with always verify who they are speaking with. So, if you want to work with the distributor again, I would request another rep. Defintely speak with a manager about it too. I don't understand why you wouldn't have booted this employee. Right in front of you, she's stealing in a round about way. If it were me, there would be no tolerance for her actions.

So I talked to my employee today... When she started she had a boyfriend... turns out they are no longer together abd she has been "going to dinner" with my sales rep! Fancy That! I plan on having a company meeting on Monday to discuss this issue. Thanks for the advice.

I guess that isn't too bad of an age difference. If it was 16 and 26 then I'd be concerned. I would still contact sales rep's manager. There has to be some code that they have about this.

Once the girl bought from you to resale to her friend after your talk -- she should be fired. She is "stealing" from you, whether she sees it that way or not. If her friends can not afford to pay to tan, will she tan them for free too?

I would certainly contact the "mgt" at your disty and let them know what has occurred.

I would also stop using that disty regardless. It should be VERY clear to ANY rep of a disty that sales are to salon owners PERIOD. End of discussion.

I would then contact the manufacturers of the lotions that your employee purchased. Let them know which disty was doing this. They will (should) take their OWN actions. Most have strict standards about how their product can be sold - and this violates those.
