I agree, without them... good luck. Thats why its importent to give them lots of PERKS to make up for the minimum wage. Remember you cant run the biz without em'.

Well, I don't get commision and I rarely if ever see my bosses, so no encouragement there. Customers are what make me do a good job. I love my customers and they seem to like me. I get a lot of free lunches and coffee drinks from them too, which doesn't hurt. Sure I get the ******* customers somtimes, but for the most part, they're great.
'Course I did customer service from Verizon Wireless before this, so it's cake. |

my 2 cents: Your customers are your best advertisement. When people see beautifully tanned, happy customers walking in and out of your salon with products in their hands, they'll get curious and check out what you have to offer.

Motivation seems to be one of those things. I’ve never been successful in training it, only hiring it. After scanning this thread, I’d point to Lusheeta’s post as an example. The key attribute I look for is finding a people person, someone who genuinely likes customers. The nuts and bolts can be trained if there’s motivation. When the boss is in, employees all seem motivated it’s what goes on when the boss is not there that makes or breaks. We also have security cameras which allow live access via the internet, beside all but killing wrong doing, it permits comparing employee behavior from when the boss is and is not there.

DWhite - How do you motivate your clients? If you hired the right employees you will not have to motivate them. I have found over years of experience either your employees have or they don't. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I work at a small salon and (obviously) get free tanning. On top of that we get upto 50% off products and 10% commission on sales over $50. I think it is all a matter of getting employees who love the job. As corny as it sounds, I love seeing a client progress and feel good about themselves. Maybe i am the only one, but I like having people enjoy their purchases. I also never push a cream that is over $50 to get a commission unless it is a cream that i believe in. I dont want to sell someone a cream that they wont like.
