Gary, I agree with you...IF you are interviewing an older, more experienced age group. Again, I would default to my experience within the industry verses yours, OUTSIDE looking in. Experience is a great teacher and so I offer only what has worked for us very well.
What "trips" up most of the applicants is that they feel they can trust the HR person since they are so casual. After all, they perceive this business already as a laid back, casual and fun job. Get the prospect to relax and feel comfortable and you will see that the simplest questions work. Rather that razzle dazzle them with questions that are designed to get the innermost secrets out of them, sometimes you will find that the $6.99 questions work. And since you brought up paying for questions, I will simply say that anyone who would pay for 3 questions to find employees is a sucker. Sorry Gary but you have to have a little more experience outside the furniture industry before you sell your advice. By the way, I¡¦m not really back (thank you though) I just show up once in a while to add some twisted insight and to check in on you all. ƒº -M- |

I think there are a lot of answers to this question and it changes depending on your needs. I agree with Sunsally. I know we look for people who can sell, it is number one for us. I had to disagree with the "sucker" comment, we had to interview a ton of people in a two week period! I am sure most on here are not interviewing 200 people in such a short time, and I do not have a "HR" director, just me right now. For us it was quick easy and it made worked for me!
I don't know if any of us have the "secret"! I can remember a lot of weird interview questions I have been asked. |

Can you find a good (perhaps dishonest) person with 3 questions? Sure, if that is what you are looking for. Yes, I too am interested in finding sales people. However, remember, YOU DO NOT SELL TANNING! You can get a tan for free, down the street, fake, competition...What you are selling is service.
People are buying results and the experience. Yes, sales is critical. We did'nt open all these locations cuz we're not making money nevertheless, to interview many people in a short time, weed out the losers first then focus on the remaining ones willing to work. I agree that many people will have different answers to this question. And while my "sucker" comment was a little unkind it was intended to say how unwise it would be to beleive anyone who says 3 questions will find you the perfect person. If they did coporate america would make Gary a VERY rich man indeed! _________________ [ This Message was edited by: Mike B on 2005-04-29 18:38 ] |

Mark, the Interview Test wasn't designed to find the perfect employee. IMHO, if you want to NEVER hire anyone just look for the PERFECT employee.
The Test was designed to determine very quickly if they can SELL. We estimate it's been given to over 5,000,000 (that's millions - not a typo) applicants and sold in over 40 industries, sorry, Mike the experience of the test 'trumps'. And besides, we couldn't sell it and you couldn't use it unless it was 'proven' to 'work' effectively. Otherwise, if it only worked sometimes and not others, it would be discriminatory and you couldn't use it. Salons as far away as Ergoline Australia have bought it and swear by it. AlexR, a very respected veteran 9-salon operator who's been on these boards for years posted, "These questions, in my opinion, were an excellent investment. They have for the most part, proven very helpful in selecting candidates without using emotions too much in the hiring process. It's amazing how likable some people appear in the interview but obviously have no killer sales instinct whatsoever. This interview test will help you determine this. It's not foolproof, but pretty darn close to it." _________________ Gary[ This Message was edited by: gripmarketing on 2005-05-02 10:45 ] |

You estimate it has been given to over 5,000,000 applicants?! Well, yesterday I saw 250,000 customers! Thats right, TWO HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND! ...You could'nt sell it if it did'nt work? Have you tried some of the lotions out there? We have sold those too! Look at E-Bay...somebody to buy anything...Gary, forever the salesman. One can only wonder how many boards you are on pitching your services. You remind me of those late night/early AM promotional spots hoping to catch the desperate.
