Unfortunely employee theft is always going to happen. As Knxtan said, you can slow it down, but you can't stop it. It used to really #issed me off. But after years of dealing with, it no longers does. It's amazing what you get used to.

It's almost like a game/competetion. They do it, while you do you best to catch them . Suxx!!! Good luck with our problem. Don't let it stress you too much.

do u think i should take it out of her pay or cut her now? I need her for 2 more weeks.. so I do not want to say anything yet.. But when she gets paid I am gonna say something... It defintely needs to be brought to her attention... I am not gonna be around on Sunday and she works all day.. I have 2 people that will check in for me...
PS I am not saying I can control it.. but do these people think we are stupid..

Free tans or lotion, theift is theift. Human nature I think. Some employee's don't see it as theift. I think they believe they are owed it for some reason. I tell my employee's that I need a written explaination when the give out a free tan or it will be deducted from their pay check. As said above, you can slow it down but it will NEVER go away. As owners, you just have to keep at it.

Totaleclipse - that is awful - I woudl take it outta her pay - attach an invoice explaining the reduction, thats what i have done in the past . . .

sucks to trust some one, treat them WELL & have then steal from you

I like the idea of attaching an invoice! Unfortunately I have no SOLID proof but I do know for fact it was done. I haveto be careful this week because I need her for 1 mor week then She is gone BAH BUH!

I just opened this board and couldnt believe it when I saw this post! Well, after this I bought a used security system, with a few kinks, but they were worked out. Now I have 24-7 recording. No worries!

I think it is illegal to take any money out of someone's check, but I'm not sure.
I have the same thing going on. I have 2 very good key people. Everyday I watch my details on Suntouch Software. I noticed this week one of my girls tanned in the middle of her shift. I'm wondering how she then put the next few people in their beds to tan at the same time. It's obvious she tanned a friend for free. Of course it was in my $30.00 bed. Only the best for their friends.
In addition my other employee tanned at the close of the shift which is fine, but didn't punch out untill after. They tan for free in the best equipment on the market, use my lotions, and now I can pay them while they tan free. Once, shame on you, twice, shame on me.
I will be asking employee #1 for the single visit fee of $30.00 or she can chose to leave, and I just changed the timecard for the other employee.
Software is great, I have everything documented.

funny, it IS illegal to steal . . .

you can back up the deduction via an invoice - the employee would have the opportunity to argue her point, dispute the charges or make the needed payment via another method your salon accepts
