Be proactive. Start thinking about current tanners that might make good employees. Or friends you know. Or someone that works in your same strip center at another job but might want to pick up some evening or weekend shifts. Or someone with a great personality, work ethic and ability to "sell" from your gym, hair salon, favorite clothes shop.
If you think you have a couple of good possibilities, ask if they MIGHT be interested if an opening MIGHT come open. Explain the job in detail - the WORK entailed, the RESPONSIBILITY expected. Then, go to the owner and tell them you have some people in mind that you think might make good additions to the salon staff. Have the two of you interview them. Make sure they will be available the hours you do NOT want to work - while making sure that you are still taking the bulk of the "lead" times where the best person available should be working. Initially, have them "double up" with you so they can learn from you and get up to speed quickly. For flexibility and added staffing during the busy season, consider hiring at least TWO new people and have them split what extra hours are available for now. And, use Central VA's strategy of initially telling them it is a one week "tryout" period. If in one week of working with you they don't show GREAT promise, initiative, hustle etc under these conditions - let them go. It'll only get worse, not better. |

Labor laws in most states prohibit requiring an employee to work longer than eight hours in any twenty-four hour period. Overtime is supposed to be voluntary. You cannot be forced to work this amount of hours. Check with your Department of Labor.

Now, now, engfant...
Be a good *** Seriously though, I often make fun of people who believe in something that can't be seen, heard or touched. Most people here know that I am athiest, as I have made a point of discounting religion in general. I get really sick of the moral judgements espoused by those who purport to "know better", and being that I am basically a smart ***, I used this opportunity to take a cheap shot. That was uncalled for, totally off topic, and just really mean. If I didn't have anything nice to say, I shouldn't have said anything at all. I want to apologize to tanshopgrl. Even though I don't agree with your priority structure, it was not necessary for me to be rude. And my advice, for whatever it's worth, is to discuss the situation with your owner. Perhaps they have a bigger plan? But any, good luck! |

Excuse me? I don't think so. We are talking about REAL LIFE HERE. If you want to INSIST on making God first, you need to deal with people that UNDERSTAND your situation. Church gatherings is a GREAT place to meet people with similar priorities.
If you are in tanning for the long run, you need to put TANNING FIRST. I'm SURE God has better things to worry about (like a small flood on the other side of the earth for instance) than whether or not you are thinking of "him" 24/7. All this INSANITY is GREAT for my business, FYI. |

Unemployment here is high...I have been told many times that OT was manditory, I doubt if they would have fired me for not working, but it would have weighed heavily at my next review. A lot of posititions where production was key and if I were to acheive goals, I worked extra hours many times without OT just to keep my job. |

Okay, PLEEEEAAASSEE...if you are going to add a post about your thoughts on God, please save your fingers the time. That is not what this is about. It's a little childish to me. If you want to start up a thread in Say What?? or somewhere bashing God...go ahead...leave it off of mine, Please.
Thank you. |

Regardless of her order of priorities, 7 days a week 12 hour days are not good for anyone, How could any owner of any business expect an employee to do that! That employee is gonna get burned out, sick physically and maybe mentally, she is not going to give her 100% to the business, in the long run....everyone will hurt...
