How much did it cost for you guys to put a 1200 amp service in? The reason I'm asking is for the second salon, we are currently at 400 amps and will need it to go up to 1200.
So any and all pricing ranges for you guys would be great.. |

maybe i didn't phrase my question correctly. The salon itself will not have 1200 amps. We have to bring in 1200 to the building because we do not have enough electric alloted to the back electric room. We will be stepping it down and only using 800 amp 3 phase.

We recently got an estimate for more service to be brought to the center we are in. I don't understand how it all works, I just know the estimate was a little less than $15,500.00. That was for the electrician to do their part and the electric company to do their share. The existing service to the building is 1200 and we wanted it upgraded so that we could upgrade from 400 amp service to 800 service. Without more service we have to stay at 400.

We had to bring 1200 amps to our salon. They trenched quite some way etc.. Think it was around 30k. Give or take. Depends on if they have to trench to a generator and how far etc.. If you have the option of piping along the building or going underground go underground. It's cheaper if there is no treching invloved. So if there is a generator at your back door and you can use it do that. However your village will tell you what to use when to use how to use and they will always cost you more.

Plan on about 30k unless you get a sweet deal. I own a small construction company and my normal electrician did most of the work. We trenched over 120' and ran aluminum wire (cheaper) but not necessarily the best and sometimes more labor cost...copper is twice the price but probably the best way to go without MAJOR headaches.
Trenching is more expensive, boring underground here Mo ranges from 20-30 per foot and sometimes they will pull your pipe and wire along with it. Material such as switch gear, wire and the guts for your panel inside will all be special order...more expensive... Probably around 15-20k. My suggestion is to get a written bid from a very large electrical contractor or a smaller company with a good reputation and compare. Make sure that the bid is a complete install including the inside panel and buckbooster install. Getting a company to do buckbooster alone is very difficult. Please, please do not contract a mom and pop shop just because they are several thousand dollars cheaper. The cost is what it is and you will pay for it with $$$ or problems. I went from spending 15k to 21k on an 800 amp service and lost another 10k in time and rent because of the wrong contractor. 21k was the original bid from the large contractor. |
