Are you the manager on duty? If you are, then delegate. Does the salon have a handbook, if so, refer to it. You need to know what your powers are so that you can react appropriatley.

i am not a manager but i am the one in charge. so basically i guess yes to your question. i have talked to our boss several times but she just keeps saying okay i'll talk to her but never does. and she doesn't understand how frustrating it is trying to keep up with my duties and hers also. she has never given us a handbook. only told us what needs to be done. it's real laid back here.

We have PC anywhere and can see the computer screen and operate it at will. Helios shows how long the beds have been dirty so we know if they are being neglected (and they know we know!!) I have also installed internet cameras so we can watch the staff at any time when we are not at the stores. It is great to see if the closing is being done and completely. The morning shift has to sign off on the night shift's closing and make notes if beds are smudged, mirrors dirty, etc. Last we will write up an employee formally if a problem continues which puts them on probation. If their performance does not improve, they are let go.

I know exactly what you are talking about. We were closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The girl I work with just left the salon as is on Thursday. I knew when I came in this morning that it would be like that. I am the manager here and I constantly ask her to do things, and nothing gets done. I work 9-5 and she works 5-9. I clean in the mornings and all afternoon and the next morning when I come in there are ketsup packetts everywhere, trash full, etc. I have talked to the owner numerous times also....nothing gets done. Every morning it is like a kindergarten center in here. She has friends up here constantly and they stick stickers all over the counter, things on the counter...everywhere. Owner knows. I guess in reality we're just going to have to keep doing 2 people's jobs. Hey, I gotta idea...when it's time for checks to come out why don't we go ahead and tell them that we'll take theirs too. I am thinking about saying something like that, seriously. Something like, "Hey, if you continue not doing anything and I have to continue doing your job too then I'll take your check. My two-for-one days are over." LOL!!!

Okay, this worked on one of the girls that I used to work with. I think it'll work with you since she said you can ask her to do stuff. When y'all are just sitting there ask her to help you make a list of to-do's. You pretty much know what they are, but maybe if you can get her involved then she'll be more willing to help. I really can't talk, though...I am in the same predicament. I am going to try to tell her "Look, season is upon us. We need to get this salon in tip-top shape. So, help me make of list of things we'll do to keep it that way." We'll see!!!

my girl is here too. eating chips and sitting on the stool not doing a thing. my boss never told me i could make her do stuff so i don't know what to do. the list thing is a good idea. sometimes when there's no one here i actually say "well i guess we could go clean the tops of the beds" but i don't want her to feel like i'm bossing her around.
