Mats in tanning rooms and questionable sanitation

I'm looking for some feedback on a sanitation issue.

I just put attractive little mats in the tanning rooms so that customers don't have to step with their bare feet on cold floors. The mats are washed regularly, but not after every client. A couple of customers have mentioned that the mats could be nesting various bacteria and diseases and feel that they might not be safe. I agree.

I would like to know what all you other tanning pros do in your salons to ensure customer comfort but also provide a sanitized and safe environment.

Carpets and even mats in the rooms may be a problem, but when you think of it, do you really have to sanitize the floor after each use, I guess you could? Go for the bare floor, it can't be that cold?

A mat is not no different than having carpeting....and noone sanitizes there carpets after each use...

Before I leave at night, I spray the mats down with Lysol(s/p) to kill any germs or bacteria. And I remove them weekly to wash them.

I to have mats in my tanning rooms. Like your mats, they get washed regulary. I have to say that I have 'never' had one single customer say anything about the sanitation of them??! I think that as long as you keep a clean salon (which is often commented on), customers kinda take it for granted that they are germ free. (unless us english lot are grubby little monsters and just don't care??!!)

I have a type of indoor/outdoor commercial grade carpet in my rooms...I was afraid of law suit in someone slipped on tile while getting in/out of the beds... I spray it with lysol, and they get steam cleaned every weekend...

I do the same a KR. It is too easy for a customer to slip and fall and then sue....

the regs in ohio require that their be a mat in every room.
the mat is cleaned and sanitized after each use.

How do you clean and sanitize after each use? Is it okay to use just lysol or do you have to use something stronger?

In Texas we cannot have any kind of carpeting in any room. I had mats in my rooms and had to remove them a few years ago when they passed that law. Many salons in Texas had to pull up the carpet and put down tile. I think they make the rooms feel cozy but Texas does not agree.
