We've got carpet right now, but we're going to tile over the next couple of months. I've ordered bathmats like the hotels use, about a hundred of them. They can be washed after each use and replaced just like towels...

You're kidding. Better get more than 100. That is a great idea, but the extra washing and costs for them, pheeew! Little mats are no better than carpeting unless you do as Swedaguy suggests, a fistering ground for germs. Do the owners of gyms go thru every 5 minutes and sanitize the locker room floors? Are we in the tanning industry being made to follow some crazy standards?

The linen company that provides my reception runners, was able to find anti-fatigue mats for my rooms. They are very cushioney with a smooth rubber surface so cleaning after every use isn't a big problem. We use a flat mop with a terry cloth cover, that we also use for our laminate floors, and we spray the mats with the bed sanitizer and mop with the terry-cloth mop, and the mats are shiny for the next customer. They were expensive at $45 a pop but they seem like they will last forever. |

I order my paper mats and tape the 4 corners down on my tile....after i spray that person i tear it up and throw it away and then tape a new one down on the next customer....now thats sanitary...and only that customer has ever used it...if i have 5 in a row i tape 5 down and tear of the top and reseal just like a note pad...works great i order them from 4 seasons (ask for JoLynn ext 234 she's the BEST!!!) they come 500 to a case and retail for 56.00....they are about 2 X 3 foot...pure white neat and clean...my customers wrave about the cleanliness and then i use a swiffer or clorox wet dry gadget with my citrus cleaner and disinfectant and it cleans the walls and tile without killing myself in less then 3 minutes and throw the pads away as neccessary...need any other info on these types of items i have tried them all and have more info if you would like...just email me...have a great day...

you guys this is great feedback! we are now using towels ON the mats that we already have (the mats give that warm feeling and the towels are replaced after every customer) so now it is quite sanitary. Those disposable paper mats sound amazing though!

Quote:I to have mats in my tanning rooms. Like your mats, they get washed regulary. I have to say that I have 'never' had one single customer say anything about the sanitation of them??! I think that as long as you keep a clean salon (which is often commented on), customers kinda take it for granted that they are germ free.
Ditto to what sammie said. Other then for confort of the client..and decore I think they are necessary because the mats do get washed frequently... as opposed to the carpet. Only every three months or so. I do see a problem with the potential for lotions or tanning oils accidentally getting on the bare floor and causing a client to slip and fall. Can you say "law suit"? There is an advantage in having them in the room. IF alowed. Like it was stated above some states do not allow them at all. |

I do not allow them to step off the paper mats while they are drying either...i have my fans and heaters set up over the door aimed right at them....also when i said Swiffer..or the clorox gadget....that was for cleansing the walls and the tile after i remove the paper mat they have been standing on...and i also said i use the citrus cleaner and the disinfectant in those things as my cleaner...so that IS sanitary. and then use the bleach cleaner after each client...i dont see where its not or maybe this puter didnt say what i meant it to say for you to understand me correctly...hope this clarifies it...have a great day...

We have carpet and mats in each room. Although, our mats are like plain area rugs and we had them airbrushed with "caribbean sun" and a tropical background on them. we got a lot of compliments on them. they are a bit pricey and need to be changed at least twice a year. they always make a great holiday gift for my mother-in-law. but, we sanitize them each night and the carpet is deep cleaned every month.
