I am having a bit of a financial issue with my current job. I am the only manager and I have been with him since BEFORE the store opened. Helped Setup and pick the floors even. I do all the hiring, firing, training, scheduling, end of month commission, charge VIPS, created a pretty thick and pretty specific Employee Handbook & schedule all meetings the list DOES go on. I work 6 days aweek, & ALWAYS have my cell on me when im not here. I am basically on call. If something goes down I am always HAPPY to be there. I am GREAT with customers and bring in a pretty good penny for the salon at the end of the month when it comes to sales.
I have worked in and around tanning salons since i was 16. But this is my first Managment position. I don't think I am being payed fairly, don't get me wrong, I LOVE my job my boss, my customers, and the people i work with. It is helping me on the way to owning my own salon. What would you think would be fair pay for someone who does as much as I do? and How do I bring it up (again). Because I have, and all i get is. "When I can afford it.....". I'm only making enough at the end of the month to pay about 2/3 of my bills. Please help. |

I WANT to make what I DESERVE. I dont have a choice with my bills. Its Car payments and mortgage's. I work with my mom to make up the rest of the $$, but I dont like working for my Family business, its horrible work. Rehabbin run down and forclosed homes. I know the salon is fairly new and he may NOT be able to afford ALOT right now, but $9 is NOT cutting it. It wouldnt be that Terrible if i werent losing $100-$110 in taxes every week. Even a $2-$3 raise would satisfy me for now.

Fair pay for a manager differs everywhere you go, so you'll get different answers to that question. How often do you get a raise? When was your last raise? Are you on commission at all? This is a slower time of year which may be effecting your pay if you are on commission. There are a lot of things that would need to be considered before someone could really answer that question fairly.
But some advice: If you really love your job, and you do as well as you say you do, than I would think the owners would really want to keep you. Sit down with them, and tell them you are having a hard time making your bills, and make points as to how dependable you are. Also, mention that you may have to get a part time job in order to make your bills which would restrict how available you are, that may open it up more for you. |

I DO love my job and they DO know they need me because we have talked about it before. They want to go partner when i can AFFORD it and they talk about paying me salary soon as they can. I do make commission, an di sell my *** off so its pretty decent, but it doesnt cut it. I LOVE my employer, its a family business and they are all GREAT, but I just am falling DEEPER and DEEPER in debt. I Don't know WHAT to do. I did take on a second job. I just didnt tell them yet, because I didnt know how. I work VERY hard and am COMMITTED to my Salon, my Girls and my Customers. I would HATE to leave here. I just dont know what is Fair. like I said. I have NEVER been in this position before.

I would sit down with them like I said, and say everything you said to us...You love it there...them etc.., but you need to take on a part time job to make ends meet etc because you aren't earning enough to pay your bills. I'm sure if they love you like you love them, that they will try to work something out with you once you are open with them. For what you say you do, I would think in my area anyway, another $2 per hour would be necessary for that job, but it would depend on the commission or bonuses as well...if your commission is awesome that maybe another reason why they don't boost you up more. just a thought.

i think you better look for a better paying job..princess!! or work a 2nd job.and hopefully it will not conflict with your tanning salon job.If it does, explain that your just not making it. and if your worth it to them they will do what they have to to keep you!

I hear you ALL loud and clear. I agree with you Jolee about the commission and figured it MIGHt have something to do with the lack of raise. BUT at the same time I dont want to lag on my Sales, because I love to make my clients happy. I don't want (or think it should be necesary) to cut my Sales abilities just so that they will give me a raise ya know? AH ITS hopeless. I will talk to them AGAIN. hopefully it helps. If not i will be BACk. *winks* thanks bunches.
