I have to agree with Angel. Closing your doors is an invitation from YOU for other salons..... However, that is if business is GOOD. If you are only tanning 10 a day... maybe you should consider shortening your hours on weekends until it picks up, because you are spending money on electricity to keep it open. & ten people a day doesn tpay THOSE bills. have you tried advertising???

Update - this month is getting better, I re-structured some "things" with the bank and I did a little advertising, rented one of those signs with the bright pink and yellow letters. Decided not to open at 3 but to open at 12:00 and from 12 - 3 is Happy Hour, tan for $2 in the base beds. I went from having 5 - 8 people a day to 10 - 15 people a day in the first week. Still not making much money, but I have people coming in the doors. Also, running some more specials, I am making it so the tanners just can't stand it, they have to come and tan.

It is easy when business is slow to get in a rut and not be creative. Sounds like you are getting past that and finding ways to increase your cutomer count. I agree with others that that you have to be consistent in your hours. There have been several businesses in our plaza that have shortened their hours and then began to close a day or two here and there (without warning). What happens is that people may not come in for months on end and then decide to tan on the very day you are closed...they will find someplace to tan that day and you risk losing them to the competition. You have to do what is right for your business. When I take time off I know that part of the cost is higher payroll...it is a fact of life for me. No matter how much our clients like us, the bottom line for them is their convenience.
Bottom line.....You have to make whatever decision is best for you and your business. Good Luck! |

All I have to say about this one.... Lowering prices to compete with everyone else is the worst thing you can. DON'T lower your equipment standards to the others. Remember you want to gain store traffic. Make sure you keep up on your lamps, acrylics as well as starters and facials. No need for lowering prices. This isn't Walmart!
