People may not like all the turnovers in ownership. Something doesn't seem right.

That's pretty cheap for a business start up. Assume all of her beds need lamp changes. Figure your total costs per month, how much you will charge per session, and how many sessions per day you need to make the bills.

You also need to decide what is going to differentiate you from the competition. With only a few beds, don't try to be the cheapest, because you can't run the volume. Maybe go for a high end salon look, but you will have to add an upgrade bed.

our salon traffic doesn't pick up until after noon. I would open with long hours for a few months and establish the traffic pattern, i.e. I will have 3 tanners between 9am-11a- not worth opening so early at this time of the year.

Well I asked her if she would take 8,000. She said she couldn't go below 10,000. She is 70 yrs. old and wants out. 2 hrs later she called and said she would take 8,000. The rent is 650.00 plus electric. I still need to talk to owner of bldg. to be sure it will stay the same...she says he will agree. The salon has 5 beds, 2 of them face tanners, extra bulbs, towels, cleaning materials, everything there stays. I figure I better go into this as if I opened the salon for the first time and pray I could build it. I have never owned a business before so I am a bit nervous to say the least. Any comments...

As long as your not dumping your life savings and have funds to operate in the red for awhile you should be alright.

One big thing to consider, if a business is not making any money, is it really worth anything, or is it just a "worthless" business.

Well tommorrow I am taking my husband to see the salon and meet the owner...I think I am going to give it a shot... This is a big step...I don't know if I am making more out of it then I should...but hey I figure if I go into it as if I just opened the doors for the first time then I am not going in it expecting much from her clients...I know I can do better than her. Hey wasn't it Abe who failed, failed and failed....gotta try or you'll never know and there isn't to many businesses out there that can be purchased for 8,000 everything included to open and true even some client base.
