Lost check

Anyone ever lose a check?

A customer came in last night and paid by check. When we closed we realized that her check isn't in the drawer. We've looked EVERYWHERE and it's just gone.

Do I call the customer and ask her if it was accidentally handed back to her? And if it wasn't does she need to cancel/stop payment on the check?

If you do not have the check, I would most definitely call your customer. IF she does not have it and you do not have it then I would encourage her to stop payment on that check and come and write you another one so you get your payment.

This can also be part of an ongoing scam...where they write the check and then never actually give it to you...we had a rash of those a couple of years ago...

Did you check under the cash register drawer & in back of it by removing the drawer?This happened to us and the check was found a couple weeks later behind the cash drawer.

Problem is non-existant when you don't accept cheques. They are old-school and unnecessary in this age of plastic. Hopefully the clients bought services and not products, at least you can suspend them until payment is assured.

I didn't lose a check but i made a deposit last week and this week i get a letter from the bank saying there was a $1500 check missing so they debited my account, I know i put that check in the deposit cus i signed it in the drive thru line, the bank said "oh well" so now i have to try and get another check, meanwhile, i can't pay rent for october till i get another check, i love banks, i should have opened a bank, then i'd always be right.

it wasn't from a customer, it was the last payment on a business i sold about 2 years ago.
I wish i had customers write me $1500.00 checks, i can't even ge them to pay 15.
