We have a SunDazzler Stand-up and it is an oven!! I have never had a client use it and not be somewhat overwhelmed by the intense heat generated!
No wonder they are not very popular! It feels like a blast furnace! Well... not anymore! I had a friend help me pipe A/C to it last night and you simply cannot even begin to imagine the difference it made!! 1. Turn fan on top over so it blows air down into top of standup. 2. Buy a standard 12" to 8" (whatever diameter your fan is convert to 8" A/C duct). 3. We cut into A/C main duct and added a 8" duct to a ceiling grill modified to allow 8" pipe to stick out about 10" thru ceiling into room. 4. Attach flexible 8" foil duct between ceiling grill and top of fan adapter. Fan adapter just sits on top of fan and directs A/C into booth. VERY SIMPLE! VERY CHEAP! You can feel cold air from A/C unit blowing directly into SunDazzler booth thru fan opening. When you turn the Sundazzler on and the fan kicks in... HOLY SH>T!!! You do not feel the heat from the bulbs at all... It is incredible!!! Just finished it last night and today clients were ecstatic!! First lady who tried the newly modded booth immediately bought a pkg!!! Our particular configuration is a 10' suspended ceiling so it was fairly easy to duct the A/C to the booth. |

Ahh that's an interesting idea. It's forcing the air through the booth and then it gets sucked back up through the machine for some super cooling. Nice idea.
I added a/c to the dressing room of the booth by coming through the floor. Works NICE. "We have a SunDazzler Stand-up and it is an oven!! The Sundazzler is probably one of the best standups (160watt) on the market so I don't know where you got this information. All tanning equipment can SUCK if it's not cooled properly. You were good enough to figure it out. If your acryllic is yellowed and warped from the heat it maybe time for some new ones. |

not familiar with particular booth, but you may want to look into the cooling system a little better. the fan is meant to extract heat from the operation of the booth, removing that may ultimately overheat the internal parts. with acrylics this is even more critical to extract heat, though much is produced by the ballasts themselves.

My 'dazzler really heated up the room until I ventilated better. Dropped the room temp by about 18 F during the busy times. The a/c idea is good, although now you'll need it on all the time or at least when it is in use. Mine never gets that hot unless it is running a lot of back to back sessions.

It's actually pretty smart. The Booth has acryllic shields so the internal air and the lamp air are NOT the same. The fans on the lamps are still sucking straight through and upwards while the internal fan is blowing cold air down on them. I know that the newer Dazzlers have floor fans that could be modded to attach to ac duct (anything can I guess) but in this case (and in mine) we do not have this floor fan. I think it's smart. |

The fans and OEM cooling system were working as intended which I confirmed with a tech. The tower itself gets fairly hot but with so many 160W bulbs (Cosmolux VHR TT's) that seems normal to me. The new SunDazzler has a modified base with fans which shove additional air in at floor level, so SunDazzler at least recognized the heat problem.
Neon, my tower is going all of the time. I already have two fans mounted on the top of the partition blowing cool air into the room. I also had a A/C vent close to the room at ceiling level. It's just that clients (including my wife & daughter) always complained about how hot they got when they tanned in the tower. The turbo bed has about the same amount of power but 10 times the airflow. I added the A/C to the top of the tower for about $150 which I felt was a reasonable amount. First four clients who tried the modded bed said they didn't even sweat at all and felt nice and cool while tanning. The cold air also gets sucked back up into the bulb compartments for additional cooling. Just a nice mod for older SunDazzler standups. |

So, if it is being used that often you'll need the air conditioning on in the whole salon whether the salon itself is hot or not?
It's a great idea, for me however, I don't need the a/c on all the time, so keeping it runnng just to cool my 'dazzler isn't money well spent. I'm lucky I guess, it doesn't get as hot as yours seem to. |

I would say that about 1/2 hour after opening our main A/C is running full time till closing. We have three systems and the way they are positioned in the building the main one handles about 60% of the load and never shuts off so that is not a problem for us. We are still fairly busy (80 tanners yesterday) and it gets fairly warm in there.
