For us in the Northwest, we did okay in December/January, better in February and we are definitely kicking butt in March. Extremely early Spring with record setting temps, etc.
We are at capacity about 50% of the time and reasonably busy the remainder of the time. 10 bed salon doing close to 200 a day, much better than the previous owner did last year. April/May are the big months so we should be at 225+ a day by then. Sunday we had 119 tanners in 7 hrs. Lotions and swimsuits are also doing well. We bought the salon in mid-May last year and just made it into busy season! Love it! |

Re: Out of $$$
I bought my shop in September. Many sceptics said I wouldn't make it. I did fine. I only upgraded one of the beds when I bought and waited till early busy season (which is now) to do the next. I have been putting LOTS into savings. I have taken the advice from everyone here on that. But being a new salon owner I agree with the rest of you that started in the off season. I learned about all the idiosyncracies of my building, beds, and clients. This prepared me for what is sure to come (busy season) my skills grew with the clientele. It also gave me time to paint, clean, and set up and test different price adjuctments
If you have the capitol I highly recommend it! |

Re: Out of $$$
I think though if you start in the slow season the following year youhave an idea of what to expect, but if you start in the busy season you may get false hope and blow the money trying to pay stuff off (which lets be honest never really happens) so you don't put away for the rainy days.
