We have signs in the lobby, [This lobby is protected by a security camera], even so,
sometimes we have theft, usually samples by a client. I cant say we dont have employee theft, I can say we dont know about it. A thief takes hours or days thinking about how to do it, without getting caught. That means you have to invest nearly as much time to stop them or catch them. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: perfecttan01 on 2004-10-04 07:24 ] |

Cops wont work for that petty crime. You will get a write up in the local paper's Police Beat and other salons will spread rumors about you. Best thing to do is keep it inside. Bring him in, lock the office door, show him the footage and work out an agreement in writing where he admits what he did and you both agree upon a price to be paid back. I would make that price the cost of the tickets and 10 times what he admits to stealing. If you caught him 1 time on tape I am sure there were other times. Tell him you dont want to go to the cops but will if he doesnt pay up and pay up now. He has credit cards, he has family and friends. Dont let that 4 month old child BS interfere in YOUR business. If he says he cant pay you immediately call the cops while he is there or threaten to. You hold the royal flush here - he is a low life thief. Know your role as the authority figure and make sure he knows his.

Let it go and move on. I tell you what though - where there is one there is another. In my experience it is hard to be the only one stealing you usually have at least one other doing it. I would tell him you going to prosecute unless he rolls on someone else. Date and time so you can go back and look it up.

Silly advice, get an agreement in writing to your extortion?.. way to set yourself up for a nice lawsuit and face crimianl charges. Why not just cut off his hand and beat him about the face and shoulders with it? That would set an example to your employees and he'll think twice about stealing every time he goes to scratch his nose. |

I have an employee who is just letting her friends walk back and tan. They don't sign in and they aren't put in computer because they aren't clients. I have SunEase but my timers and computers aren't hooked up together. I set the time in my computer as customers walk in then I have to set my actual bed timers. Which is a problem because employees will set the customers in the computer right but then forget to go and set the timer. I have had customers tell me they felt they tanned longer than they asked for. I have not figured out how to tell how many times my beds were actually turned on so that I could match it to my sign in sheet. I am behind times but this is all so new to me and I have no one around to help.

Foxy you should spend a little to upgrade you system. Your beds should keep up with the hours indepently of any thing else. So if you dont have a computer set up to it you still can. How do you know when to change your lamps? Bottom line is though it doesnt matter what steps you take against theft if someone wants to steal they will find a way.
Why hidden cameras to catch people? Would it not be better and less time consuming (you might as well be at the salon if you have to sit around and watch a camera) to let them know about the camera as a deterant. |

At the salon I'm familiar with, they figured it out after auditing the voids. The owner called the employee in, who denied it. So he pulled up the list of voids and called the customers in front of the offender. They admitted to it after the 3 or 4th call. The owner threatened to call the police if restitution wasnt made (the owner was also a former cop). One of the parents ended up paying most of it back.

Use the finger scanner. Sizzle tan I believe that is black mail if i were him I would go to the cops then. If you trully catch someone stealing get rid of them. If you want call the police. And yes the police will file a report. We just get rid of them. Even if they did it once. But with the finger scanner it's hard to steal like that. Lotion get's counted each shift.
