hey people,

i'm just wondering how you feel about adding certain new things (such as products & services) to your salon to make it stand out from the others.

Like what are the main criterias for your acceptance or denial...is it the popularity among clients, the ease of incorporating into your salon, the costs and investments, the potential profits?

Are any of you very traditional and do not want to slide away from the main idea of what a tanning salon is about?

Let me know your thoughts!

Everyone wants to add to their bottom line.

Criteria? All of the above.

Slide away from being a tanning salon? I think we all opened tanning salons to do what we thought was best for the business. Some diversify to the point that tanning is no longer what they want to do, but just a loss leader, and I guess that up to the individual. Keep it what you wanted to do, or progress and get away from what you wanted to do?

Now that we've got the initial pitch, what's the rest?

My lobby space is very limited so while I would like to offer more retail items my space prohibits it. I have tried some small tanning related retail items but generally end up marking them down to get rid of them. So far I haven't really hit on anything that customers love.

WE don't thrash things, usually, unless we have experience with them. I've tried all of the following to add to the bottom line with little or limited success: sunglasses, toe rings, gurkees sandals, anklets and bracelets. Simply put, there are many things out there you can use as an add on, some work some don't, depends on your market and location, the only true way of finding out is to bite the bullet and try it for yourself.

DWhite, alot of people on here are looking for fresh ideas. One positive of someone trashing an idea. It may make you think twice before you waste your time with it. If I have an idea and feel good about it, then I don't care what someone thinks about it. Their are some morons that think they know all the answers, and it's best to just ignore them. However you can get some really good ideas on this website.

I think that any idea is worth a try, and one day you'll fall on a good idea that will stick. If it ties in with the tanning directly, I think it works best. Like those teeth whitening things that work while you're tanning...that's a great add on to the tanning session...any one uses those and how much do you charge per usage? Bottom line, i think any idea that gives your clients a particular benefit, thus making them look and feel better, will work better than a retail item for sale. what do you guys think?
