I think no matter how many years you've been in business, it's normal to worry when you run a into a slow season. I made it a year and although I knew what to expect it still worries me. But all you can hope for is to continue to come up with creative ideas/specials to entice the public.
It starts to pick up in January. February thru May got really busy so be prepared to work your butt off literally (than you'll be wanting the slow season to roll around LOL) But as everyone advises definitely save any extras for the following slow season. It's a cycle. Good luck and you are not alone. We all feel the same way. |

This year when the slow season rolled in it didn't roll in gracefully. . .it slammed into me!! I slowed down drastically seems like overnight! I am going into my third slow season and I still get into this "funk" when it comes around. I put aside all I can through the good times, and I use it all up before the good times comes back 'round! Keep your chin up and always think positive. . next year is going to knock your socks off!!!!

Bellatan:
The tanning "season" starts in December. You've got two choices: 1) Sit tight and do nothing. This will produce nothing except bills as your overhead clock ticks away. 2) Advertise. Promote. Cross-promote. This takes money and will produce results - not as good as from Dec-May. |

Last year I opened and went through a scary time. I kept seeing money go out and not enough coming in. This year we are up from last year, and I have new insight on the slow season. I can sit here and stress about it or I can use the slow time to train my employees for the next couple of months. I just started focusing on training for the last week and I am impressed to find that my employees per person average has gone up dramatically. I look at it this way, we might not have very many people coming through the door but if the employees are armed to sell and upgrade packages it will help this slow season not be so stressful.
