We just purchased a salon in the middle of May. The previous owner stored customer-owned lotion on-site as a service.
However, lotions are stored in large, open plastic storage bins with names written on bottles. It is messy and not very sanitary. I have had complaints from customers who claimed to have lotions there that are now missing. How do you handle that? Any ideas for storing customer owned lotions/goggles would be greatly appreciated. |

I would not make it a practice to store customer items for them, because of possible claims of things missing, being used, etc. I would wing them off of you keeping their lotions for them. This will not only limit any liability, but when someone forgets their lotion, then they will purchase one of your samples. Good luck

Are you operating a SALON or a STAK N' PAC storage???
Common sense, says, bad business sense. GET RID OF IT!!! Don't be surprised if someone down the road slaps a theft/vandal suit against you when they get "P'd" that their 'stuff' is missing. Everybody today is 'sue' hungry. It cost nothing to take someone to small claims court over petty a$$ $hit as this. Tell them to keep it in the console of their car. They will have it everytime! |

I keep some of my clients lotion if they prefer to leave it with me. But I have it on lower shelf behind desk and I hand it to them when they come in. Most people prefer to keep their own but there's the few that don't want to carry it in their car. I'd say I just have about 40 bottles on my shelf right now. I wouldn't do it if it's just out within anyones reach. That, I could see would get really messy and other's possibly taking someone elses lotion.

We store them i metal file cabinets from Target($29/2drawers), my friend actually went to the trouble of finding used P O Boxes and let customers that want this service to rent a "locker," with thier own key, for $5/month.

We store it if they buy lotion from us. We have organized drawer system and everyone is very happy so far. Have been doing it six months. We would prefer storing it, we have the room, than have them leave it in the car and be ruined be excess heat or cold(it breaks down the lotion). We know when the lotion is getting low and it allows us to sell more lotion because so many clients see others picking up their lotion. If they are done tanning for a few months, we ask that they take it with them. It also allows for husbands and wives coming at separate times to use the same bottle of lotion. It used to be one would use lotion and the other would do without. However if you tan 200+ a day, it might get a little out of hand.

We store them in ziplocs with their name on it in a cabinet behind the desk. We have a memo on their screen that tells us which drawer it is in. They are impressed when we have their lotion and goggles waiting for them as they come in. I agree that it helps with lotion sales because we can notice when they are getting low and begin to talk about the next lotion they will purchase before they run completely out of the current one. It works for us.

I too store bottles of lotion for clients, I have only had one incident of a bottle missing and honestly think the client took it and misplaced it by mistake. When I went to reorder for her and explained the situation to my distributor, he sent me a bottle for free and I passed on the "freebie" to her and she was very happy and gave me the money for more visits that she was planning on spending on lotion.
