On top of training, every other week I create a pop test for my employees, packages, lotions, services, etc. After which we sit down go over it and they take the same test next week to make sure they understood what they learned. It works great for us and our lotion sales have doubled since we started doing this in addition to our classes.

At first my staff freaked, I made them very hard. i even put ingredients of different lotions on the test. Now they look foward to it, they have seen their sense of security increase in selling and of course their commissions double!

Spend an hour:
5 mins on review of what is right and wrong the last month 25 mins on lotion training (products, ingredients, & salesmanship) 10 min review of cleaning and customer service 10 mins on questions and problems 5 mins on awards (bonuses & sales competitions) *** If they are not there then no bonus money until they are at training. 5 mins on goals and expectations for the next month |

Make a list of every tanning product you stock and ask you employees to describe the product type and who should use it.
Is it a tingle, bronzer, natural, cooling...... _________________ Greg Klesius Soakin' Up The Rays, Inc. Your top selling product, is whatever you want it to be![ This Message was edited by: Soakinuptherays on 2004-04-20 08:10 ] |

Training is a ongoing daily issue. NOt just when the new mags come out. We discuss new ideas and talk about what we have learned as the years have gone by. I dont know that I have employee or client that havent been trained about the smart ways of tanning. This to me should be praticed daily. You clients should be educated just like your employees, this in turn will help you sell more lotions, and keep you clients from having skin problems they dont understand.

My tests consist of many different subject. I will ask the dumbest questions such as how to give clients direction to the salon coming from different location. Dumb but asked frequently. To our beds, Bulbs, how the skin typing works, to how the skin tans. I will give just a name of a product, i want to know bronzer, (imediate, delayed, both) tingle, cooling, etc. Everything and anything. How they would sell it to a client, what ingredients are in this specific lotion that would benefit the client. Our Mystic tan how it works, different problems a consumer could face, how to correct. Our Body wrap, how it works, why it works, etc. Cleaning how long should peepers remain in solution, why we clean the way we do. Common scenarios such as a client in fair skinned, red hair, and is fighting to do 20 minutes yet you know they should start off at say 8 or so how would you handle this. Questions on our services and policies, this is a bonus so that your employees all know how to handle the questions the same way to give consistency in dealing with your clients. Ask questions about different ingredients in lotions and what they do. The tanning industry is so large with so much knowledge to obtain. I take common issues and put them in the tests as well. Knowledge is power for you employee and also a great means to spread the knowedge to you clients, after all you cant be there 24;7 to teach your clients, so you need to arm your employees with all the knowledge you can possibly teach them!
