Alot of times a customer wants to try out your bed (usually because someone has recommended you and your beds to them). I see nothing wrong if you let them share. I did with my customers and it got me more customers. Also there could be a reason the customer can't use his time ( which he has already paid his money for). I think this would be a courtesy and keep them coming back and recommending you. I was in a situation like this once and could not use my time up and the owner would not let me give my times left away. I no longer recommended them.

I will let any customer try out a bed - no problem - but that does not mean they can use 1/2 of the minutes or sessions from a friends package.
I totally agree that sessions are not the same as minutes and that minutes can be dragged out. When I said they are the same it was with reference to both systems can not be shared. We allowed clients to share for many years especially within a family but we have had to stop it because it was being abused. We started to expire packages this year - the client has 6 months to use the package - tons of time. This promotes the using up of the package and not leaving it there untill next season. We don't sell a product that you buy and can take home we sell a service - a golden tan with all the required professional advice and time used in our professional equipment. If a client buys this this season it can't be used next season. Since we started this new policy last month we have had absolutly no complaints. |

There is only 2 ways to stop this. 1. Don't provide the discount 2. Don't allow sharing. The discount is there for a good marketing reason to get the customer to make a longer term commitment to your salon - this does not work if the customer gets into the business of selling their minutes. I like the way you said that. As for expiring sessions, at some point you have to. Last year I went thru the system and found many clients who had bnot been in for more than 2 yrs.. We called them all and let them know that they had sessions left and that we were in the process of "cleaning" out the system, therefore those sessions would be expired in 15 months. Some came back in others didn't. One advantage that I have found by leaving some sessions until the next season is that it gives you a reason to call them and get them back in before they wonder off elsewhere. 6 months seems a bit short. |

Let me tell you how I keep the spenders happy....this year we went through our system...anyone who had spent 500 or more since we opened we sent them a card good for 1 year 14% off any tanning lotion purchase...you would have thought I had gave them a million bucks...I say dont change...keep it simple..and keep the spenders happy....read your trade mags...this past issue of tt talked about the clients who is a pain not a spender.

I still say no sharing especially when the client has bought a large package at a volume discount. Not very likely, however, a client comes in and buys 10 beds for say $60.00, that's $6.00 each. They use one and then 9 of his/her friends come in a use the rest. Your regular 1 session fee is say, $10.00. You just lost $40.00! If all they wanted was one session, they just duped you out of $40.00!
