I have to agree with you Gene... I have also been in the food and beverage industry as well as tanning. Asking someone to sell tanning and tanning products who does not tan is like having a vegan server at a high class steak restaurant. The salesman is only as good as their product knowledge!

I wont buy a specialized product from someone who doesnt or wont use the product themselves. I wouldnt buy a diet pill from a 400 pound salesperson. Obviously I dont want leather skinned employees, however I want them to be glowing examples of what my customers can look like.

You can't force your employees to tan, that's just silly. Most employees will take advantage of the free tanning, and if not, they probably don't want to be working in a tanning salon.

This statment is not even WISE in a CYA type of thought process!!

If you don't understand and train your staff on the HOW's and WHY's of skin cancer then you should not be in the industry....

I would never hire a non-tanner or anyone that does not have the intelligence to absorb the FACTS about overexposures and underexposures.... even my bed cleaners have to be able to REBUT any ATTACK at school, home where ever ~ following our Salon Policies of Common Sense Use of UVR.

They can neither 'over do it' or 'under do it' to work here.... I HATE going into the competition and seeing the front desk chicks with the 'Dipped in Chocolate' look... there is nothing more unattractive imho.

A guy squirting coke into a bottle that does not drink coke is no problem.... but a sales person selling coke darned well better eat, sleep, drink and pee it. Same Same for Indoor Tanning.

I think that would be discrimination. But I don't really think you can force them to tan, but probably just hire people who do tan. I mean I'm sure Hooters states they'd hire fat girls, but in actuality I've never seen one.

I have a similar problem. My employees all tan but one is very pale an just can't seem to get much color. I told her to use a bronzer but she complains that it streaks...so I told her to try a bronzer on her legs first ...any ideas or thoughts on this one???
