With the holidays coming up, I was wondering what you all do for your employees gift wise to show your appreciation?
What kinds of things does your Salon do for your employees and customers? Any tips and/or advice. Share your thoughts please. Thank you. |

Many of my salon owners are taking advantage of the slow season and making money off of the holidays. Put together a gift basket for those husbands who don't know what to get their wife for Christmas. Include a lotion, exfoliant, moisturizer, towel, a pair of eywear and a gift certificate; put it in a basket and wrap it up nicely. As far as employees go, you are probabally already giving them free tanning, free or discounted product, and a good job, so I wouldn't go too far out of your way, but maybe just a little something like a $10 gift certificate to blockbuster or your neighborhood ice cream shop.

I usually do a gift certificate for a place that everyone likes. In the past it's been, Kohl's, Pier 1, Borders, Outback Restaurant. I give the same amount for everyone and then write them a personal card with some mention of how they have added to the quality of my life knowing them. It's kind of corny but it's important to tell these people how much you appreciate them since they are the ones helping you build your dream.

a $10 gift certificate!!!!! whoa don't hold back!!! good to see that you look after the ppl that help you run your business well. (other than the free tans, etc.)
try something a liitle better, like trade services with a dayspa in your area and send the girls there. |

$10 seems a bit insufficient, however, I usually give my employees a large package of free tanning (over and above what they get per week), vertical and beds, plus a "party" either at my house or at a local club.

After taking our sh*t all year long I think the people who helped get you through and the people who will continue to get you through, as long as they are treated well, should be spoiled a little every once in a while.
Remember, they can always go somewhere else if they feel unappreciated. And it always is going to cost you more to keep finding new employees than it is going to cost you in keeping the good ones you already have. |
