Shouldn't they talk to the clients? Why not just let them, you can tan
people in there place, and when they are ready tan them.
If you need to clean beds just say I'll be right back I need to go
clean a bed or two. Be honest with people.

I as the salon owner have learned to cut gossip off at the hip. However I cannot say the same at all times for my employees. I do warn them consistenly about gossiping with clients.

why is it so bad, if you walked in somewhere how would you want to be treated?

Don't push people away.

I have been at my salon for 6 years so I know something personal about just about everyone that walks thru my door, but gossip is an entirely different subject. I will not tolerate gossip from employee to employee nor employee to client. I don't want anyone to think that they were the topic of conversation and like stated in a preveious post what if they were talking about someone that your client knew. Thaere's 2 lost customers plus the word of mouth spread. It's just bad.

Here is a good one, talk about gossiping:

We just opened our salon last week.

A customer came in and said she had overheard at the beauty shop while she was getting her hair done, a few doors down, with only one booth I might add; the employees bad mouthing and gossiping about our salon. She said it made her so curious about our salon, she just had to come and see what all the fuss was about. She ended up buying a package with us!!! Not sure if she will even continue getting her hair done anymore.

Guess it bit them right in the ***!!!

We do not tolerate or deal with such nonsense. If it is a problem then that problem is relieved from their duties. I have resort meetings every other month where all salon employees attend and I go over this subject each time, even if it is just for a second. Staff is reminded that if they have an issue then take it to someone that can do something about it. Gossiping on the desk or elsewhere with a staff member does not resolve your problem. When we hire our new seasonal staff I give them the same speech so there is no misunderstandings. I do not tolerate nor do I participate in drama, Ignorance, or Disrespect. My staff knows that these infractions are taking extremely serious and depending on the severity they can be firable offenses. I believe that our work environment is all employees work environment and they have the right to enjoy coming to their job without the tension of feeling talked about, disrepected, or picked on. If our employees get to that point of not wanting to come to work because of the environment then they are going to begin having attendance issues, not happy while they are there, they won't be excited about doing their job or making the sales. So, we don't accept it because it can destroy our business. Besides, our slogan states we are professionals and that is how I expect our staff members to act, Professional!

I had to clean house once again a few weeks ago. It's is like I can never get away from it. I believe it is the small town location they have nothing else better to do. Coming here from the "Big Easy" is a dramatic change. Does anyone else have the small town rat yat yat ah tat mouths! Or is just me?

I can't tell you what a huge issue gossip has been for my salon! I myself am a newly promoted employee to manager, and my issue is with my boss's boyfriend! He used to work in the salon and he would continue to chitchat with our clients about his personal life with the owner! He would claim ownership of the salon (when in reality, he bought this salon for her and sold his 30% to her months ago)
This salon has been nothing but DRAMA since I began work here! I can guarantee none of your stories could top mine. But being a mature salon manager, I wont engage in any gossip about my own place of employment
