Had to fire one girl for stealing and actually caught her red handed; then she files for unemployment. I give them my statement and they actually , get this... gave her unemployment which of course raises my rates! Their excuse was .."Well, if she was nevertold it was wrong, how would she know? " Am I crazy?? What is this world coming to!!!!

You may appeal the decision and would probably get that ruling overturned. In Maryland, that comes under the heading of "gross misconduct."

Don't laugh yet, my daughter used to work at a major home improvement store and the manager had to call her in to witness firing a girl that showed up after not showing up for two weeks...like nothing ever happened! |

If a employee quits, they are not going to get unemployment. But if they are fired or resign or laid off, they can get unemployment. You need to appeal and will probably win.
You need to do a employee handbook and in this booklet, you state all that is expected of your employees. The do's and don'ts, in this day even the small business must protect themselves. If need any help starting a book email me, I have one in place and after each employee reads it they sign a form stating they have read it and understand the salon policies and procedures. |
