Do you offer sales on your tanning packages or not??? We have been having a sale every month forever. It has gotten so bad, that NOONE will buy when there is not a sale. We have buy 100 minutes get 50 FREE and buy 200 get for 2 weeks of every month. Sales during those 2 weeks are 10 times what they are during the other 2 weeks. So this week we bit the bullet and are doing buy 100 get 30 FREE and buy 200 get 60 FREE for 1 week only. I know sales will suffer, but eventually they will buy at regular price, won't they????

Yes eventually they will... You have to break them of waiting on the sale by not always offering a sale. A continuous sale will devalue your product... Break them and quickly.. Maybe set specific times of the year when you will offer sales and stick to that... Mark it on your calendar at the beginning of the year and plan accordingly. I bought a salon where the owners for 2 years sold $99 a year (NO FEES..UNLIMITED TANNING)... Can you imagine when I came in and all the packages started expiring... When will the $99 sale be on.. (HA, Um NEVER!) ... They all bought..Just break them..

I have run into this problem at my salon...seeing we just hit our 1 year anniversary in March..the first year I was doing a lot of monthly specials..and customers got comfortable with us giving them...so as soon as season started to roll around this year I decided to put an end to specials until summer when business dies down and I have had so many customers asking when are you having specials or why are you not providing specials??
I have come to a conclusion that regardless of a special or not tanners want to tan and will eventually pay with or without a special....
So definitly get them out of that mindset T...they will come around

Christina

We do NOT offer specials during peak. We are so busy that we feel there is no need to. We save specials for the slower months to keep people intersted and for the most part we have many that look forward to that time and keep with us most of the year if not all year!

The purpose of a sale is to sell to people who wouldn't pay full price but to still make a profit at the same time. A smaller profit is still better than no profit. During the peak season if your salon is completely busy it would be pointless to have any specials because your demand is very high and supply is low. During the off season you have more of a supply and less demand. Sales increase demand. If your worried about losing customers over it you could do sort of a permanent sale. If you go to Wilson's Leatherwear in any mall, you will notice everything is on sale, when in reality it's the normal price that appears to be on sale. That seems to work pretty good for them.

We were in the exact same position. We have stopped running the specials and as people ask what the next special will be, we just let them know that our regular rates are great, so that's what we stick to, and we've been handing good customers 10% off cards "for their next package" when we see that their's is running out so they will be encouraged to stick around.

I cant believe how many people show up or call and say what specials do you have for new customers? I try to explain that we want to treat all of our customers fairly with good prices all the time and try to find out what package will work best for them, it usually works, but you always get some that only care about raw price and not what they are getting for the price. I guess it is just part of retail. We limit specials and discounts during season since that is when we get to really make our money.

Hello! April 11th was our customer appreciation. We ran 20% off all tanning packages for that weekend. Also ran lotions on sale. Had a great day.... but get this.... I had one lady that wanted to purchase her and her daughter a package and wanted a bottle of lotion. She had to nerve to ask me if I would give her a better price break on the deal! Heck she was getting 20% off the packages and 25% off the lotion! And wanted to know when I would be running another special!!!

side note: daughter used to have a beauty salon with one or two beds,,,, years ago. She still gets lotions from Hoss Sauce in the mail, so never purchases a lotion from me.

Daughter ended up buying her own package, so mother bought the package and lotion that she wanted.

We run deals like buy 1 month and get 2 weeks free (for 1st time guest only)This attracts new customers I have not serviced yet.
We give 1 week free to all customers that purchase their 1st month of the season. We do this to help promote our tanning schedule.
This September we will run an ad buy 1 month get next 2 months for $14.88 each to extend the tanning season.
We often run direct mail ads to promote lotion sales..
