What about those of you with mainly EFT and Points? What do you do to keep members, bring in new members this time of years or keep members from freezing or canceling? Mailing my database with 20% off lotions for members and small points giveaway. Any other ideas?

I just decided to try a special where when someone buys a large unlimited special such as 6 months they get to pick out some lotion for free. We even give them a dollar amount instead of a specific lotion because they feel like its a better deal especially if its a large amount. For example we have the tan til the end of the year special running and they get $25 dollars worth of free product. Here's the benifit for the salon: most salons should only be paying about $7.50 for a $25 bottle of lotion, so tahts all youre really giving away. The money youre making off the package covers taht pluss after a month or two expecially during the slow season they will probably stop tanning anyways, especially around the holidays.

I would never give away product. You can add more service to give away but I would not do product at ALL. But that's just my opinion. Also your going to train your clients so when they spend X amount they may want X amount in product again. Your also showing little value for the product.

I give product away all the time...it's a selling point. |

Over Here I try to emphasize the Wellness Factor of the indoor tanning industry, rather than promoting year round tanning as a way to maintian colour. We emphasize to our customer the benefits of why they should be here, especially with our colder Canadian climate! Most of our customers take care of their bodies more in the fall and winter by exercising. We promote year round tanning as a way of execising their largest muscle..their skin! It is working so far, but press releases would be super helpful as well. I wish Smart Tan would make television commercials for all of us to benefit from.

I would check out Pointblank Business Technology's website. They have all kinds of free tips on making it through the slow season. Everything from reducing store hours to specials. This is a seasonal business people so don't complain when the slow season comes. You have to be prepared to diversify your business with ancillary products and services that will attract clients year-round.
