FYI To Ask Don's Army:
[Note: Please read "Stay With Me...#1, #2 and #3" before reading this post.] What business are we in? Or are some of us in several different businesses? Question 4: Exactly what is the "primary product" of the UVR "delivering" segment of the indoor tanning industry? Question 5: How does the primary product provided by the UVR delivering segment of the industry differ from the "primary product" provided by the spray booth and airbrush spray segment of the indoor tanning industry? Question 6: Thus, are both segments providing the public with a "cosmetic" tan? Don "Now It Gets Interesting!" Mitzi:
If Steve is right (and he is!), why does FDA/FTC mandate that "traditional" tanning salons featuring UVR "delivering" tanning units use the word "cosmetic tanning" to define our "product" when it is clear that the words "cosmetic tanning" correctly should apply to spray (fake) tanning? The word "cosmetic" didn't really make sense back in 1986 and it certainly doesn't today. Question 6: How do we get out of the box we are in whereby we have to say that UVR delivering tanning salons are providing a "cosmetic tan" when it is clear that only the spray technology salons should use the words "cosmetic tan" in their advertisements? Christine/Keeli:
Good answer! Now, some questions based upon your answer. Question 7: What SPECIFICALLY do we know (that the American public DOES NOT KNOW) that we want to let them know? Don _________________ [ This Message was edited by: Don Smith on 2002-09-05 05:30 ] |

The message I feel that we should be delivering to the American public is...
A tan, is a tan, is a tan. (Sounds like a song! LoL!) Light exposure by means of the Sun or Sunbeds delivers the same response...the advantage of using Sunbeds is that we have a controlled environment. What do you think? My Best, Shari |

Shari:
First of all, welcome to TanTalk and the Ask Don forum! You said "A tan, is a tan, is a tan" and that we use a "controlled environment" to help the client get the "response" (a "tan") that they want. Good answer and when we define what a "tan" really is, we will be on the home stretch. So get your "thinking caps" on and tell me what a tan (that is a tan, that is a tan, that is a tan) REALLY is. Good Morning Don,
Thanks for the welcome! I will take a stab at this... A tan, is a tan, is a tan is to me our bodies natural pigmentation exposed! Take it easy on me! Shari "who doesn't mind being toyed with by you" Jones |

Dear Don Smith;
Is it probable that indoor tanning salons can provide a tan, that is a tan, that is a tan,by means of Ultra -violet machines? Isn't this the professional way to protect the largest living organ on our body through controled exposure to UVR to help trigger the protective responce of body that it naturaly can acheive? Are we not helping the natural process? correct, or still other more valuable information missing here in this search? _________________ Christine' "That's right, it is time for the anti-tanning segment of the dermatology community and their comrades to "throw in the towel" and admit defeat!"Don Smith Don't Miss Don In Action [ This Message was edited by: fungirlz on 2002-09-05 07:05 ] |
