Our most recent mailing to our entire database worked like a charm! We put a very short expiration date on it... and then honored the $10 OFF any package portion for an additional ten days beyond the expiration date. We also offered a free upgrade on the card as well, but expired that on the expiration date. We are seeing people that we haven't seen in a year or more... plus our regulars all bought a fresh package even if they already had an active package in our system.
We did it all by ourselves with Suntouch Mailmerge and a print shop and lots of post card stamps!!! We figure we saved at least a thousand dollars by doing it ourselves. And it REALLY brought in a lot more business. Be aware, this didn't attact new clients... it brought past or existing clients back in for more of what they already loved about us. |

I have little business card sized fliers that advertise a free session or upgrade with each new customer that they refer that buys a package. There is no expiration on their free session, and no limit to the customers they send. This is great for me.

Cab,
Let me know if I was helpful on how we did our mailing. Again, it was a great tool and can't say as yet if it was worth the investment. Sometimes it's hard to measure how effective an advertisement is. Years ago I worked as an ad exec for a radio station... you can't often tell if the seed you plant will bear fruit until some time later. I'm sure there are folks who will return to tan simply because they got the card in the mail, but never redeemed it due to time schedules, etc. |

Did you do everything with the postcards; in salon? I wanted to do the same thing with a Don't let Your Tan Fade kind of theme. I don't have any really good programs on the computer at the salon and I live here so I was kind of considering a service to do this for me. With the service it would cost me $340 dollars to send to 1000 of my existing clients. That's design postage everything. I'm not sure whether I could do this cheaper myself or not. But I am concerned with giving out my clients info even tho an agreement is signed by us both to protect my database. What do you think? Angie |

Good job on the postcards. How many customers did it draw back in? I did a mail out last year in August and hardly no one came in. I decided I wouldn't bother with it this year. I would love to get several more coming in each day right now. I placed an ad in the high school football program booklet including a 10% discount. Friday was the first ball game. I hope this gets the attention of a few. |

This is slightly off of the original subject, but someone once told me here that they did their own postcards, but not with a print shop. I am so mad that I can't remember who it was, and it wasn't on a thread, it was in the chat room.
He said that he wrote using markers then scanned and printed them. Said it was cool because the customers sometimes really thought they were hand written. Seemed more personal. IF YOU ARE READING THIS...THEN SPEAK UP!!! I never heard from the guy again. At the time he didn't post much, said he was a lurker mostly even though he had a user name. |

We paid a print shop to do ours simply because it was cheaper. However... we did not release our database to anyone. We were too concerned that if released to the wrong type of company it might fall into a competitors hands for the right price. You usually don't know it's the wrong hands until AFTER it happens.
We printed the labels and stuck them on ourselves. We also did all the stamping ourselves because we found that bulk mail can get easily lost in the system. I had a few clients try to tell me theirs got lost... but they were trying to pull a fast one. In the end, they still bought a package. We really got a great amount of traffic from the cards. They were very basic, offered two specials... one for a free upgrade and the other $10 off any package. With our least expensive package being 3 tans for $23, it brought it down to $13. |
