As many of you have heard or seen me post, the state is suppose to widen our highway, which will takeout my salon. When? I am not sure. When it all first came about they said 2003 or 2004. Now I am hearing the money has been approptiated and it will be in 2003. But another twist has been thrown in the pot. Another developer is trying to get the money for new road on the other end of town. (they are loaded and getting lots of support from landowners there)
My salon needs sprucing up for the next season. I would hate to spend the $ and time repainting and redecorating only to have them come in a few months from now to tell me I gotta move. (remember I don't own my building) But I want my salon nice and fresh before the busy season hits again! What are your thoughts on this type of situation? _________________ Proud supporter of Don's Army with a headache Mitzi [ This Message was edited by: Mitzi on 2002-08-13 10:27 ] |

Mitzi,
I would just do what you can without spending too much money. Sometimes just chaning a few t hings can really spiff up a room. Give it some thought. Is there a gov't dept. you could check with and maybe get a more firm timeline? sometimes, the word on the streets are off base. |

Could you spruce up the place with just a fresh coat of paint and a few new decorations?
If yes then, a gallon of paint doesn't cost too much and you could choose some new decorations that you would want to take to your new location. If no, I would not spend any money (more than paint) on something that can't be taken with you. Wait for any further improvements till the state makes up it's mind. |

Obviously not someone familar with Tennessee Road Department. We are still waiting on some new lanes on a bridge to be finished. They are 2 years late finishing right now, and they now say it will be another year before they are done. Yes, that's 2 years LATE, on a project that was supposed to take 18 months so it's been over 3 years since they started. I'm convinced that the people in charge of our road construction are in bed with insurance companies. The more they screw with the roads the more wrecks and the higher our insurance goes. |

I think I would paint and call it done until you know more for certain. Paint is fairly cheap, just kind of labor intensive. And your salon will be clean and bright, I am sure your clients are aware of the situation with the roads and won't expect you to do more than keep it clean while you are waiting to find out when and where you are moving.

LOL Luv2BTan, What bridge are you talking about? What part of tenn are you in?
We went to a public meeting 2 years ago on this highway issue. At the meeting they said problably 2003, but word has it that another project may take the funds that have been approptiated for this project. Who knows. Right now I am fighting with my AC. Compressor laid down and it is hot in here. Landlord has been told several times by several diff. people that the unit needs to be replaced, but he won't spend the money... Okay back to painting, I don't mind doing the painting, but they are liable to walk in the day I finish and tell me they are taking the building. LOL that is my luck' I tried to contact the highway dept. head. He has not answered my email as of yet. Probably won't either. I think I will wait until October or November and then do the painting. |

I'm down in Southeast Tennessee. The bridge is on Highway 27.
This area has grown so much they are turning a lot of our 2 lane roads in to 4 lane roads so I know what you are looking at going through. There are many businesses that have suffered through these construction projects. I tell you what though, it's better to be moved than to have to stay in place and deal with the construction mess. Not all business make it. Sounds like you have a good plan to paint this fall. I don't think you'll regret it. Pick some bright colors and have fun You can get away with things in the salon you couldn't do at home. |
