What do you do when your salon is slow???
You can only clean so much, etc........ Today I just had digital TV installed so I can keep myself sane when it gets into slow season. I have had it on for about 1 hour now and the time zipped by! Do any of you have TV at your salon and what are your thoughts on it? How has it worked out for you? Let me just say I am glad we made this investment! I really think it is going to come in handy when I am bored beyond belief! -Christina |

I have thought about it but I am afraid the employees will have it on all the time and not get anything done. I woindere if it will just be something else to police. I have one on the nail side of salon but we rarely have it on. Will you have it on all the time or just when slow? I would love it on Sundays during Nascar season.

We have a tv in the waiting area of one salon and it works out well! Some clients use it to "babysit" their kids while tanning, others watch while waiting for friends, and still others watch while waiting for a bed to open up in busy season. I've never had a problem with staff wasting time and no I don't mind when they keep a Packer game on in the background.....Works well in this area!

I don't have a TV & I honestly don't think I will ever have a TV at the salon. I think it would take time away from the employees doing things that they should be doing. There is always something to do - I would rather they be on the internet researching. I admit that I am only in my 1st year & I may change my thoughts later, but I don't think I will ever want a TV here ... except maybe like someone earlier said - It would be great on race Sunday!!! I always have the radios tuned to the race & my tanners always change my station!
I do know that I will NEVER put a TV in the waiting area - If someone is waiting to tan, I want them to browse & if someone is waiting for somebody else, I want them to get BORED & quit coming in. I don't want to encourage kids in anyway at all -- I LOVE kids, but a tanning salon is NOT the place for them! |

We are putting a TV/VCR combo unit in our waiting room. Besides something to do when things are slow, we plan to run some informational videos and lotion ads on it.
If it works out, we will add a DVD and make some of our own ads (lotions, specials, sales, etc.)to play on it. Rich |

Ditto Deb! We don't do tv either nor have we in the 5 years I have been with our company. It is hard enough to keep the employees on task at times we don't need another excuse for them.
I too don't what it to take away from our customers browsing. We don't encourage children in our resorts therefore we don't have alot to keep occupied. We have signs asking children not be left unsupervised. Alot of things could be done. Yes, tanning research on the internet, reading tanning magazines, learning the lotions we carry and how they work, learning our units and their lamps. Clerks could even make courtesy calls to new customers making sure they enjoyed their visit. Make cold sales calls to customers that haven't visited your salon in awhile. Offer them a free visit, free week, discount on a package or product. Get them involved in working on marketing ideas for peak. I know that takes up a great deal of my time as our advertising season begins while our resorts are slowing down. We have to prepare for next season during our off season and most advertising such as phone books & tv have to be scheduled now. TV because the rates are more reasonable, usually rates go up at the beginning of the year. |

Well, when I do promotional days at salons, i love when they have a tv/vcr so i can play the JA training video on endless loop....
they love watching anthony speak so they get into listening about the lotion...either that or the intense look on their faces is because they are daydreaming about him...lol. I always had a tv in the salon...and it wasn't a problem...when melrose was still on it was great! |
