How do you interact with your staff members? Are you pleasant to be around or are you always having some sort of crisis? Do your staff members come to you for advice or support or do they busy themselves when you appear? Do you repeat tasks that you not only assign to others but they have already done and you are simply not satisfied until you do it yourself?

Do a self check of your management skills from time to time. Check yourself in the "People skills" department. Without realizing it, you could be stressing your staff out.

When you delegate, make sure you are clear in what you expect. Don't delegate and follow up constantly. Realize that no one will ever do the same task EXACTLY the same. Just because someone completes a task differently doesn't mean it is done wrong. If a task does require a certain procedure be followed, be clear and thorough when you outline the task. Don't follow up by repeating the task yourself, that's insulting to staff members. If you repeat tasks that are already assigned, your staff may rebel by doing inferior work or skipping it altogether. Why do something if the boss is going to do it over anyway?

If you have certain expectations that aren't being met, make sure you were clear from the start. It is not fair to complain about an employees performance if they weren't aware of your expectations from the start. If you bring something to someone's attention, do it with respect and in private. Correcting behavior in front of other staff members or clients can be humiliating. You will lose staff members quickly if you do this.

Also... are you having a bad day? If so, don't impose this on the rest of the crew who is working hard for you. Handle your issues in private and don't pit crew members against one another. Don't make threats you don't intend to keep. And for God's sake, don't make stupid threats like threatening not to pay someone if they don't complete a task. Your employees are not your children, treat them with dignity. Talk to them as equals, not as if they are retarded.

Don't stress your staff out. They are working hard to do the best job they can. And if they aren't... maybe it's time for a self assessment.

Most people aren't even aware of how their stress levels affect those around them. Stress is highly contagious, even for those of us that are strong willed. Most people get very consumed in their own situations that they aren't even aware that their personal stress might be triggering stress in someone else.

The next question is, how do you avoid having your stress affect others, namely your staff and clients?

As you know Laurie, I am pretty laid back. I also am with my staff. But sometimes I fly off the handle (in a quiet way) But they know the "eyes". Seems my facial expressions "eyes" tells it all. I normally don't have to say much but when I do I sometimes don't handle it correctly,

But I stay stessed lately! I have so much I want to accomplish and just don't have all the time and mental compacity (at the moment) to get it all finished.
