Not that I am a paper trail fanatic or anything but "do you have a list of employee rules in writing for newbies to sign?"
I have a list that has grown to several pages with even the simplest, most common sense rules on them. They were all writtten for a reason, so if it happens once it will eventually happen again. ie, washer and dryer is for salon use only, employees are not permitted to park near the front door, removing of paper products from the salon for personal use is theft (yes someone was taking home toilet paper!!!)

We are still pretty small. But, we are currently putting all of these things in writing. We have more of a paper theft problem with customers than with employees.

I am working on some of those right now myself ... actually trying to come up with an entire employee handbook of sorts.

It would be cool to see some of these rules that some have... ya know help the new gals out

Signed documentation is also your best tool when it comes time to dicipline and employee. They may also come in useful during an unemployment hearing.

Yep got that one, No dating the clients!!!!
I stress that I prefer that an employee's significant other tan at a different salon than the one the employee works at. All 3 of our salons have same equiptment, prices & packages and are about 5-10 minutes apart so it avoids alot of issues if they just tan at one of the other salons.

I have a list including.. use of phone. peircings, uniforms, LPPA expectations, and many more....
I give them a copy and have them sign another for my records..after I read it outloud to them and let them comment if they want to every few items I pause to watch their reactions..
I do this In the first interview (for a reason)and after a few days I call them to set up a 2nd interveiw...in which I hire them.(IF they reacted or responded in a positive way.... to the list and the other questions)
You would be surprised how many applicants that you would have thought otherwise.. Already found a nother Job... when you call them for the second interview.
great just saved me a week or two of training on a slacker I would have to fire in a few months..

I find it quite efficient to do THE READING OF THE LIST first... then go to the trouble to ask questions. If not just say "thank you for coming in, I will be calling you soon"
Watch their mannerisms, and listen to their facial expressions not their words..

As for a cleaning list I have 3 things (actually 4)on there

"IF IT IS DIRTY CLEAN IT!!!"

"If something is not in the proper place, Put it back where it goes!!"

"If you drop it , Pick it up"

"You mother does not work here, so do not ask me or anyone else to clean up after your shift!"

It works for me..lol
