I just open up in March 1 and I’m new to all this but I'm trying to find out if I'm doing well. I have 9 beds and signed about 650 members since march 1 For the last month I been doing around 5 to 7 Hundred a day but I here all this talk about slowing down can some one give me some input on how well you should be doing. Thanks Mike

Can "good" be measured? I don't mean to be obtuse... but how can you truly know until the calendar reads "March 2003"? Saying you are doing good this year would be like telling an infant that just took his first step that he walks well. Unfortunately for now you are in a waiting period. Instead of asking if you are doing good, you should be doing self-checks daily, weekly and monthly to make sure you are living up to your own demands.

Did you make a business plan? If so, do you have a 3 month check point so you can do a self assessment? If you don't have one... it's not too late to start now. If you have one but don't have a three month check point, why not write one now? Again, it's not too late to start.

Each area of the country has a different measure of client preferences, habits, buying habits and cash flow. The west coast doesn't see an actual start to their busy season when we folks are well into the swing of ours. So... not knowing where you are located throws a wrench into the works. Are you in a big city or a small country town? What is the age group of your area's population? Is there a college there? How many other salons in a ten minute radius? How busy are they? Have you shopped them during off and peak times?

One thing I can say is... You are still open and sounds like pretty busy. Do you get a break? Are your bills and financial obligations being met? Do you have enough staffing or too much staffing? Are you spending more to operate than you are generating? Those are some tough questions that may not have the answers to until a year from now.

I hope I've been somewhat of a help. I know I probably asked more questions that I answered.
