If the on-line community worked togather to have a new fall trade show without the ITA. Would major manufacturers and distributors boycott the show?

I would not! I do not think that many others would. They would be to afarid to miss the oppurtunity to meet salon owners or suffer the consequences.

I would hope that we could organize a trade show to fund the pro-tanning advertising campain and advanced education for tanning salon owners with the goal of creating a multi-board salon owner organization.

Several major manufacturers that are meber of the ITA would be the first to sign up for a trade show put on my a salon onwer organization.

I think that if the on-line community worked togather and promoted this it could be come a reality.

What manufacturer would dare disrespect their customers and turn down an oppurtunity to show their support for salon onwers by exibiting when the revenue from the show could fund a pro-tanning advertising media blitz.

The ITA bragged they made $500,000 from their first show, that would buy a lot of ads and reaserch to show the positive benifits of tanning.

The ITA has talked the talk but not walked the walk!

Greg:

IF the UVR Research Institute had $500,000 to spend each year, we could (and would!) conduct the needed reseach that would answer our critics and help the indoor tanning industry grow and prosper.

Oh well, I can dream can't I?

Don

PS: Your idea (which will ultimately become a reality) won't "fly" until tanning salon owners unite and make sure that the manufacturers KNOW that "boycotting" their "trade & education show" will put them on an "unapproved vendor" list.

Do we need another trade show?

I think we do need another trade show.

We need a trade show that has:

1) Basic Certification classes
2) Employee classes on selling tanning products, dealing with customers, and keeping a salon clean.
3) Advanced salon education on:
* Starting a second location
* Accounting/Tax structure and stragties for salon onwers
* Advertising and marketing
* Hiring and employee issues
* Maximizing profits with memebership programs
* Computer issues
* Bed issues
* Indoor tanning products issues
* Other retail and service revenue sources
* Plumbling/ electrical and HAVC issues
* Franchising and chain operations
* Open discussion time

Forget the motivational speaker, headline band, fancy dinner and other BS. Make it all business.

Rent a meeting room everynight of the show filled with round tables with cash bars and buffet food, so salon owners can talk and network. Have an adacent room with a DJ playing dance music. Let manufacturers sponcer the rooms, open bars times, and food.

If anyone wants to go out to local bars, great!
If John wants to have a party, Great!
If companies want to have Suites, Great!

Pick a location like Columbus, Indianapolis, Chicago, Pittsburgh, or move it around so the majority of salon owners can drive to the event!

Make it the training event of the year!

Salon owners will come!
If they do then manufacturers will come as well or they will lose out!

The goal is to fund a campain to place pro-tanning ads!

The ITA has show me that they can not be trusted to do this! We must do it ourselves over their objections!

Good Keyriiiiist!!!!

This is insanity!!!

Don states it will fail without the UNITY of the salon owners. . . . . excuse me while I pull my tongue out of its seizure-induced location down my throat!!

Greg ~ just how many groups and causes can one industry support?????

I love your idea ~ if it is one for supporting the advancement of this industry . . . but for poopooz sake! EVERYONE has been given ample opportunity to make a difference ~ ~ total bit**slappen indifference or apathy or a division of forces it is ALL our own doing.

Support the ONE GROUP that is making ACTUAL EFFORTS TO MOVE FORWARD - and seek out any other group or person trying to do the same AND SUPPORT THEIR EFFORTS - - - but not another FREEKING trade show . . . . I'd rather go to a Tupperware party!!!!

BigDog.Com and later ~ Larry's National Label will be getting my support . . . I have made the offer to my other favorite National Major Brand ~ was willing to support this brand like a hellion for the proactive assistance for our NAC . . .

What can I say?

Larry ~ better start stirring the pot my love and give me something to tingle with

Sheila

p.s.

Larry - if you every telemarket me I will fly to Indy and kick your a$$.

I agree that we should support one group but the ITA is heading down the wrong track to the land of Lawyers, Lobbyist and Congressman all witht he ability to spend every dollar you can raise.

We need an group run by the salon onwers not the manufacturers that are not stopped by the "politics" of the industy to present the same basic training every year to avoid offending anyone.

The same softball questions designed to make no one look bad.

We need to all follow the right group with a mission to protect salon owner profits not the profits of manufacturers.

Or do we blindly follow and waste our money on an organization that is yet to prove it actually wants salon onwer participation more than window dressing.

Why not have an owners convention rather than a trade show, we know what they got(right Shelia?) . A meeting of the minds to talk about the issues, and education, and delagate some of the resources at our finger tips to actually accomplish something like a NAC fund and elect an Independant Board of Tanning Salon Owners who actually care about the big picture. Trade ideas. We can do it here in Florida, lots of hotels and sun and fun and MICKEY RAT too.
I'll hold the money :
