So far Mr. Max sounds like that in all of his posts. But if his profile is accurate then perhaps we should listen to him and arrange his advice to fit our own situation.
I for one will stay with appts. I am too small of a salon to do that right now, if everyone flocks in at 5:30 or 6:00 then it would be a big mess. People don't want to wait. However, this may change in the future as I am sure that I will be getting one more base and one more upgrade in the near future. I guess I'll see. |

During busy season we are totally booked a week in advance with a long waiting list. I really want to serve my customers needs so when they call and want in that day and I have to tell them we have nothing for 4 or 5 days, I feel really bad. I try to look down the book and remember who is beginning and will only be tanning a partial session. I try to squeeze them in between two beginners. It usually works unless someone decides to tan longer or is late since they are only tanning 10 minutes and they know we have half an hour booked. It is a 'good problem' but nerve wracking none the less. As far as expanding, I have considered it and had even signed a lease for the space next to me but then slow season came and I wondered what had happened to all those people who were clamoring for beds in March. If I had expanded I would still be paying for extra beds, utilities and rent at this time of year when we are slow. Maybe I am not much of a risk taker but I want to be able to sleep at night. My feeling now is that I will keep a couple of beds open for overflow and walkins and see how that goes.

Pam,
Just to set the record straight, I was referring to Bronze Star in my previous post. Not you.(sorry for the confusion) However,I still urge you to consider stopping your appt. making. If you do the math, you will find that each of your beds are sitting and waiting for scheduled customers to arrive. It's been over a decade since I took appts., but I know each bed sat at least 1 and a 1/2 hours a day waiting for clients. That's getting at least 4-5 more people a day per bed into tan. REMEMBER - A bed without a tanner in it is a bed losing $$$$ |

Mr. Max,
Apology accepted. I know we have dead time but I can't help but wonder if that isn't a necessary evil to provide quick customer service. I think that I will first try leaving one or two beds open. We are pretty small compared to you. I know that doesn't eliminate the phone crunch... I have also thought about limiting appointments to 2 or 3 on the book per person. Pam |

Obviously Mr. Max missed the threads where I ****** about the fact that we still take appointments. AND Mr. Max missed the threads where I discuss how the salon is growing. AND he has also missed the threads where I repeatedly state that I not the owner of the salon and the final say-so on these things isn't mine. Dig a little deeper and you won't feel so inclined to make an *** of yourself trying to shred someone who has already thought of it and shared it with everyone here. That is... everyone who took the time to read and already knows what you obviously don't.
