Robbie,
Thank you for your comments. I have been researching Henna for the past six months now on my own. There is much to know and the art is very ancient, yet becoming more popular in the United States. I had my first art done two years ago and got bit by the Henna bug. When I first proposed the henna to my salon owner, she was very excited. She did it last year and it was a huge success!! There are different methods of mixing as well as application. Since it is so popular and I have gotten so much positive feedback on my own art, I am investigating further by taking this venture solo and working as an artist on commission. I hadn't even considered taking this to the tanning industry or being represented at a trade show. At this point in time I am practicing mixtures and designs solely on myself... using my own skin as a practice pad. Even when I am not pleased with my results, my tanners are intrigued and excited to get their own art. I have been able to preserve my designs up to a week thus far and found an excellent mix that gives beautiful, rich deep color. I'm sure as I learn more and can take some classes in design and application I will become more adept at creating beautiful designs that last up to three weeks. (which is standard for good, quality henna) UV and henna don't traditionally blend well, but that is why I am experimenting to get my designs to last on my tanned skin. The tanners still love it and since it's an art form they will pay for it. Basic designs around an inch in diameter start around $15 and then go up from there. I have seen extensive designs that can go up to a hundred dollars or more which clients will gladly pay. The income should average approximately $200 worth of actual design work an hour. The smaller henna designs should literally take minutes to apply... with lasting effects. UV light will fade henna and depending on the area of the body where it is applied also depends on its lasting effects. Palms, soles of feet and face will last the longest since those are the dryest parts of the body. Ironically... oils preserve the art. Torsos, backs and upper arms and legs hold henna the shortest amount of time due to body ph levels and sweating. I'm still in the learning phase... but I see this as something that I will continue to learn and explore. I do plan on having my hands and feet henna'd for the Las Vegas trade show... so if you'd like to see it, look for me for sure. I have even considered bringing a mixture with me for some friends who might like some art to wear home. _________________ "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye, then it's fun and games you can't see..."Bronze@bronze-star.com[ This Message was edited by: Bronze Star on 2002-05-19 22:03 ] |

I did a yin yang in the center of a sun for my son with rays radiating out... it was gorgeous. Of course I will do it. I'll bring my supplies with me and mix it up the day before... it needs time to cure before application. When and where would you like to do this?

Oh how exciting..I'm getting another Henna.. ..........Way coolzzzz
I had so many people go absolutly nutz when I had it done years ago.. Everyone thought it was the most coolest thing they had ever seen.. It lasted about 3 weeks manybe a bit longer..and was done in good taste very different looking.. Bronze lets do it where people can see you working on it. I think it will be something folks will enjoy watching and seeing the results. What do you think?? Maybe Brenda will let us camp at her booth or California Tan may let us sit at their booth.. Someone will let us hang with them.. Want me to ask around? Me is excited.... |

There are several sources that I can acquire henna from depending on what color you'd like. Would you prefer red that turns to reddish black or do you prefer brown which has an orange tint that turns brown. Some hennas last longer than others, so let me know what you'd like.

Chris,
Let me be clear that I am not a Henna professional or a henna artist... but I am an artist in training. Okay? I will do my best to give you the prettiest, longest lasting, beautiful stain I can. I have decided to order 100g each of three different types of color. PS - To tangirl... it's best if you don't do straight lines. Irregular, wavy lines are prettier. |
