This is funny and irritating at the same time.
My base beds do not have a HP facial unit in them..I have to 2 beds that do however.. I also charge a 1.00 upgrade fee. Not a lot..Just a single US dollar. (beds and fee were inplace when I purchased the salon) I am on walkin and appointment system.. I have let all of my clients know that especially now make an appointment. Well, they purchase a base bed package, don't make and appointment come in at 5:00PM. So, Instead of waiting for a bed..or making an appointment and come back another time. They pay the upgrade charge and tan in the facial bed. BUT most are aware and the facial can be turned off.. I have new people and I found out that the customer were tanning in the bed coming out after ..stating that the facial wasn't working and they wanted thier $$ refunded.. agian and agian.. I caught one of them refused to refund the money nor would I apply it to the next visit. I noted all the accounts of clients which had done this .. I also have a software system that tracks who refered you.. guess what... They all know each other!!! HOW CHEAP IS THAT!!! OMG Mj They _________________ Tan Talk ModeratorTanTalk Rocks!!! I have the same thing happen quite often and I don't even charge extra for it, some people just try to get a free session out of it. I have been thinking about hanging a sign above the bed that says "if the HP facial bulbs do not come on.....press the button below" with an arrow pointing to the HP switch.

Can you honestly blame them for wanting a good price? I pay my salon to use their beds. Whether or not I purchase my lotion there is not their concern. I have and do buy some lotions there, and have bought some online. I'm not made of money. I do take offense that you would list people who buy lotions online to people trying to steal (stealing the service) from the salon. Major difference. I am sure I will get flamed for this, which is fine. But I am honestly curious why you blame the customers for buying online. Why would I pay twice as much for a lotion if I don't have to? |

I know few people who are "made of money". But it seems everyone wants a tan on their terms. Tanning salons are businesses... most run by independent owners who's sole source of income is based on the revenue generated from package and lotion sales. If you take away a portion of that income, one of two things happens. The first thing is the cost per session increases to compensate from the lotion sales that are lost due to internet sales. The second thing that happens is the salon owner goes out of business unable to compete with wholesale pricing that is offered.
I find that most people who purchase their lotions online are not "faithful" clients who want to see their local salon thrive and flourish. They are seasonal tanners who salon-hop hoping for the best deal or bargain. The faithful tanners who love coming to our salon will purchase the lotions we recommend for use in our beds and don't haggle with the prices we offer. These clients want to see us stay in business... as tanning is a seasonal business. They rely on our knowledge as well as the quality of the products we offer. Our distributor supplies us with the most current and YES the freshest products available. You cannot be guaranteed that through internet sources. So... buy if you will. But don't be surprised if one day you stop in to tan and your salon has a "Going out of business" sign posted on the door. When I find a business that I truly love their service, I support them the best that I can. This is my choice. I want them to be around to serve me for years to come. |

Sorry if this is going off topic. And I know I'm setting myself up.
But I have no problem paying $25 for a bottle of lotion at my salon. But I can not pay $45 or above. I've only been tanning for about a month (next week will make it a month) & have bought 4 bottles of lotion from her in this time. But, I have also ordered the $45 bottle from the net. This is not a cheap salon. I didn't price around for it. It's actually the highest in the area. I keep hearing about how everyone else feels & not anything else about what the customer feels. Unless I'm reading things wrong. I have no problem admitting when I am. Only thing that is coming out of all of this, is hurt feelings. I think ripping someone out of $1 is sick. But when I look at that $45 for lotion. I really would not have the money to tan. Especially since the lotion doesn't last me that long. Slam away........ |

Your feelings are understandable. That is one MAJOR reason why our salon takes great measures to offer lotions to fit into every tanner's budget. We recently brought in Soakin' Up The Rays and can offer these quality products at a lower cost and still meet our bottom line. We are even going to be private labeling this line, further reducing the cost and passing on these savings to our clients. We feel this will help draw more clients toward purchasing their lotions through us instead of internet sources. Thus, increasing our sales... even though the prices are lower. Does that make sense?
I DO understand. I was disappointed recently when one of my closest friends chose to go online and purchase his lotion at a discount site. I mean... talk about a slap in the face! But, I didn't give him a hard time about it. The deed was done. |
