Sorry Bronze but this title really does fit this story.
Today a lady came in (she is a ex inlaw of someone that works at the salon). She wants to start tanning, doctor sent her for her joints. So we set up her account. Go in the room and show her how everything works. About five mins. I come out of the office and she is gone. Pam is at the video store, next door, and calls me. She says XXXX said that the lights were not on when she tanned. Said she didn't get hot at all. And there was no need for the eyewear, since it wasn't bright in there. So I am saying , well they lights had to be on if she tanned. I ask my employee which bed XXXX went to. CJ says, I don't think she tanned, CJ was coming out of the room where XXX went and when she hit the button to reset the bed the lights came on. We are horse laughing by this time. XXXX had forgotten that SHE had to hit the button on the wall to start the bed! She had just gotten in the bed and laid there for 5 mins. I guess timeing with her watch so she would know when to get out. Anyway, she comes bouncing in the front door saying, "Now I really feel stupied" Had she not been someone we all know, we couldn't had so much fun with it. PRICELESS |

LOL, I actually had the same thing happen at our salon as well. A brand new tanner comes in, we get her going... but we forgot to start her timer. Ten minutes she comes out and says "Wow that wasn't hot at all!" With some questioning we found out that we forgot to start her session. Apparently my eyewear speech was so effective she didn't want to take them off to look. She said "How do I know when I am done?" I told her that she'd hear the bed go one and the lights would glow. "Oh... well I didn't want to peek and risk damaging my vision." I finally talked her back into getting back in and giving it another try. Which she did. When she was done she said "Oh yeah, this time there was a big difference!" I made sure to go to great lengths to make her not feel stupid. She was embarassed... but I told her, "Hey if you have never done this before, how would you know."
Now I'm sure to tell people that the lamps will be glowing and that the bed makes an audible hum... You WILL know when it goes on. LOL!!! It still was funny! |

Hey Laurie,
Love that your eyewear speech was so effective she wouldn't peek to see if the bed was on! That is the kind of salon manager I want in every salon in the US! You go, girl!! Brenda Fishbaugh |

I have to admit, I've done that too.
Customer goes into the room after I've showed them what to do, what to expect, blah blah blah. Then I just leave them in there and shut the door. They are ususally in a big hurry because they know that I have only a three minute delay and the bed will come on, but little do they know that I have forgotten to pust start. Most people can't remember my name at first, so they are yelling out the door, "Excuse me, hello? Is this thing supposed to glow or something?" :blush) |

Excellent point... and I realized that many people who come in have no clue what mine or Melissa's names are... so part of my welcome to new tanners is to introduce both Melissa and myself. I've also begun doing that on the phone as well. That way when a client comes in they can mention that it was me they spoke to.
Thanks Brenda. I am very adamant about the eye protection. We supply goggles, but in my speech I mention that I don't wear goggles but instead use disposable eye wear every time. Then I tell them if they are interested in knowing more, let me know and I'll tell them. |

What about people that don't undress first?
We have booths and have had a few not undress! We had one that wanted to tan with the dressing room door open. She didn't like confined spaces, she didn't tell anyone, I went past saw the booth on and her clothes hanging up and closed the door. She must have had super sonic hearing she turned off the booth put her clothes on and ran out of the shop. She came back in a few days and said she could only tan with the door open, I said sorry heres your money back. |
