We offer sample cups of all our lotions... as most salons do. I don't feel that anyone can "see" results after only one sample. Yeah... sometimes it's possible, but not EVERY time.

What do you say when the client says "I sampled that the other day and it didn't do anything for me." We have a few clients who desperately want lotion... but claim to have tried it all and want something NEW!

we don't offer samples for all our loton for this reason. we carry a few samples and tell clients they will not tan in one session.we tell them 99% of tanners use lotion and that we never tan without it.

Once they have their own bottle and use it 3-4 sessions they see the big differance.

We dont give away FREE samples.....anything that is free has no value! Rule#1 in retail.

you can go to far with clients, giving them opportunity to poopoo your lotions.
stop suppling samples of every lotion.
if they have to many choises and can't make up thier minds, and they cant say that so they make up the excuse they are giving you. Its kind of like dealing with children.
Sorry clients

This isn't a great percentage of my clients, Chippp... this is one or two of them. These are the clients that are spending the big bucks to tan in our biggest and most expesive bed and they literally have tried it all. One gal in particular has bought full bottles of my highest priced and highest quality lotions.

I think she just needs a change. She's the one who will sample newer ones and not give them a chance. While I appreciate your input, I would like a solution instead of just discontinuing samples. That's simply not an option for us at this point in time.

Does anyone just custom order a lotion they think will be good? Or do you have something that you say?

Here is what I do and what I suggest to my clients.

They first buy a lotion and use it half up and come back and say they don't feel they are getting darker. I explain that they may have built a resistance, (not the word I am lookin for now) and that I tend to do better by swapping out on my lotions. I will use one lotion for 3-4 sessions and then use another for a couple sessions. Thus giving my skin somthing different. I really seem to get better results when I go back to the first lotion after being off of it for a few sessions.

Just like I keep 2-3 shampoos in my shower. My hair feels and does diff. with each one of them.

We make the most of the skin cancer publicity in Australia - we tell people that they can get the results they want with less UV exposure - and the moisturising properties will assist in keeping fine lines at bay.

Best of all is to be honest – give samples to those who are hard to sell to. All clients come around over time to the point they won’t tan without a crème.

We also have regular monthly specials where they receive a complimentary crème with their course purchase. This has worked particularly well with the after exposure care crèmes – many clients have become religious users since receiving their initial complimentary bottle – and they ask when the next give away month is so they can stock up! It’s worked very well.

Very important is to call the products crèmes – it is word associated with care, beauty and luxury. The word lotion is negative – it is clinical and sounds medicinal. We refer to our products as crèmes and our competitors as lotions – and we never say a bad word against them (just the choice of words is enough). Phrasing the sentence is the most important thing you can do.[ This Message was edited by: mjaprivate on 2002-04-10 01:03 ]
