The "I know everything about tanning" customer and staffing issues.
It's hard to find a reliable employee these days. Once you spend time and money training them, you get the hassle of no show's, call-ins and sheer laziness. If you find a good one, hang on as tight as you can. |

Recently our biggest peeve is the exposure time debate with clients who can "handle it"! Especially those who haven't seen a tanning bed in a year and want to go the max in a newly re-lamped unit............

I'll give them a recommended time, but I don't debate with them anymore. I send them off to their room and set the exposure time at my discretion. No one's even noticed yet. |

Most people can tan for te max exposure the first session it is after they try the same for session 2 and 3 that a mild sun reaction shows up.
I think the min session dose for the first session is too low for 99% of people. When I start to tan after a long spell of not tanning I never tan for the minimum exposure, in my booths its 2-3 min. I start at 5 or 6 min myself then slowly move up to 7-8 minute the max exposure. 2-3 min is a waste of time for the first session for most people. After I tan for 3 or more months I normally take 7-8 minute sessions, from time to time I take a 10 minute session . |

We are talking about indoor uva sun tanning, a client can never get a burn reaction in our machines that would come any were close to the burn they can get out side in 45 min to an hour.
The talk and worry about over exposure in indoor tanning is over blown! |

Our biggest problem is now and has been since we've had the salon "No shows". We have a small "no show" charge now and we've talked about raising it, especially during the busy season, but the charge doesn't seem to phase our clients one bit. It's so aggravating to turn business away because we're booked up, and then to have 10-15 no shows a day
