What is the deal with the current generation? I'm not that much older than them so I really don't see what the problem is here.
They come in to work tired and cranky. They think that they can just sit behind the counter, chew gum and talk on the phone. They feel like they have to tell you their life story and who they are currently dating, dumping, whatever. They wait until 10 minutes after their shift to call in. When they do show up they decide that they cannot work their next shift because Joe Blow got them tickets to some concert and that is obviously much more important. But, can they have a few more hours next week. Are parents raising their children differently or what? I don't understand this. When did parents stop teaching courtesy and respect? When did children stop learning about responsibility? Sorry. I just really had to vent here. I don't understand this new phenomenon. |

It's not only a generation thing either!!!
Last week we hired a bed cleaner. Worked first day, second day didn't show up. I called her to see why. Her boyfriend said she was with her daughter and grandchild. So I figure something must be wrong. She called later that evening and told me the problem. So I understood and let her come back in on Friday, which was our Customer Appreciation/JA Promo. She thanked me for giving her another chance. So today she calls and says she won't be back in cause her former employeer has called her back to work. (which is a better paying job) But dang, I spent time training her, Tara spent time training her on JA products as well. Come on now, give me more than a few hours notice for christ sake!!!! Luckily I had a girl that has been begging for a job. So she came right on it to clean beds today. Just turned 16, I hope she does okay, I am about freaking over it. Whew, I fell better now. Thanks, |

Do people not learn to take responsibility for their actions anymore? I have never thought of leaving a job without giving some sort of notice.
Do people no longer have loyalty to their employers? I would never even consider leaving an employer stranded like that. |

I think we get as many calls from young teens asking "Are you hiring?" as we do from tanners making appointments. Frankly, the salon I'm at won't even consider you if you are not well known at the salon. Even then... one girl isn't working out because she hides in the back room folding towels and cleaning beds. She refused to interract with the clients and heck if she'll sell even an ounce of lotion. We spent time and money to train her to hide??? It's not like the tanners are going to bite her or anything. Oh... and did I mention the DRIPS???? She could be back there washing the walls down... but nooooo, she'd rather freakin' fold towels all freakin' night!!!
I'm done venting now. |

It isn't legal but in my store policy I withhold commision for that month and/or key & shirt deposit if I do not get at least a weeks notice.
I have it write at the bottom of the salon policies I have them read just before they sign and we discuss that as well. proir to working for me... Other than the recent nutcase That Just Quit and help herself to the cash drawer..I have never had a problem. Just the threat of them losing $$ usually makes them alittle more considerate of your schedule.. Mj |

Our employees earn 5 minutes of tanning for every hour they work so many of them have built up alot of tanning time. If they are fired or quit without proper notice they forfiet all of those minutes so I don't have alot of problems with them quitting without notice. Firing the worthless ones.....well that's a whole different story. Seems like I have to fire about 2 or 3 every season. One down already this year, and she was 25 and working on her masters degree, ssooooo irresponsible.
