I've been working pretty much all the hours by myself now, and getting pretty burnt out. Peak is coming around the corner soon, and am going to have to start hiring some bed cleaners. I know some of you have the bed cleaners now but will probably hire more. But when do you think it is a good time to hire for peak season. January? Febuary? Now?

We are looking now. That way, we can weed out the bad before busy season strikes.

All my peak season help usually start in Jan. I have been taking applications. I already have 2 applicants that I am very interested in . I will start interviewing later in Dec.

We too are excepting applications right now, though I probably won't hire anyone until the end of December/ begining of January so they are properly trained by peak season. I have 4 girls on staff right now, other than myself and plan to hire 4 more. Realistically I only need to hire 2 more but something always happens and I want to have extra people this year.

Geez, with all the excitement of TanCun, I have let this slip by me. Usually we hire in mid Jan. 1 person and the hire more bed cleaners in Feb. I guess I better start taking applications. Man these last couple of months have flown by. Oh goody the season is just around the corner. Yippeeee

I recently wrote an article on this topic for Today's Image (Jan 2002) and found that most of the salon owners I interviewed plan ahead as far as December, hiring in January... taking two weeks for training and weeding out the bad ones. The season also varies with geography and I found out that the farther east you are, the sooner the busy season starts (and also ends). Salon owners in Washington and Oregon didn't see heavy traffic until very late Feb... so they didn't interview and hire until late January, early February.

But... don't burn yourself trying to do what everyone else does. If you need a break, by all means, hire more help if you can afford it!! You don't want to be burned out just as peak season hits.
