I am a very new owner. And I have had to refold so many towels, My children 8 & 5 manage to get it right, can't a grown man????
I am the same way the head rest has to be perfect the tanning basket handles have to go the same way every time, or I am a freakin maniac. So do neat freaks open salons or do salons create neat freaks, that is the Question?????LOL

I wonder that too 2shoes. I am very anal about towel folding and placement on the bed. I even get irratated if they are not in a perfect stack on the shelf where we keep them. The pillows on the beds all have to go the same way too and be perfectly centered.

I have always been a neat freak, now if I could just get my partner to see certain little things my way...

Well, towels are important...but, so far, I think I'm the worst...Ihave a salon policy / procedure book...everything from listed holidays, sick day, shift changes, test bed forms for doccumentation to ensure tanning time is not given away. Sales goals...must meet 90% to get tanning time for the next month....and smoking forget it...I dont allow smoke breaks....nothing cheesier than seeing the "tanning chick" hanging out the front door of the salon, holding the portable phone and smoking ! I dont put up with it....if they are on a break go smoke in a restaruant somewhere away from my businesss....boyfriends etc cant visit during their shifts...I'm paying them to work not socialize....and no cell phones or pagers allowed in my salons...they can coordinate their dates and chatt time off of my clock....they are on the shift to sell lotion and take care of customer needs....All abide by the rules or they can go somewhere else....this is a tanning is a business and if you treat it as a hang out for kids and Mangers alike then, that's what your cusotmer see. I want it professional...customers first....and I have the policies so employees / Managers know what to expect....I give the paychecks and they do their part in upholding the salon to the highest standards....yep...I'm a ticky person....but, it payes off ! I get compliments on my employees all the time..I give extra tanning time, lotions to employees and some paid 3 day weekends...hey, you get what to demand, and rewards and recognition keep the employees with me long term....plus, being direct...there is no miss communication....they sign-off on the policy manual at the beginging of training ! One thing they say...is that "I'm direct, but fair" ...guess that's not so bad. Deb

hows this for anal?

I cust out a piece of cardboard so if the employees cant get the towles right they can use it as a guide so all the towels are the same size, I don't know how people constantly screw this up, I have had people fold them way too skinny and then too fat, the only one who ever did them right is my only male employee, go figure that?

I also have to have the pillow in the same place all the time, as well as the towel goggles, and sanitized bed bottles in the beds.

The toilet paper in the bathroom, must have the sheet that hangs, hung over the top, not sticking out from the bottom, the soap in the bathroom has to be on the riht side of the sink.

The beauty bar goes like this, top shelf tissues on the left, moisturizer on the right, second shelf, cotton balls on the left seabreeze on the right, third shelf, hairspray on the left deodorant in the middle, saline solution on the right, fourth shelft baby wipes placed in the middle of the shel;f

See... I'm thinking that it's the anal neat freaks that become salon owners because everything you're saying is stuff I do. No one folds my towels at home, EVER!! No one can get it right, no one is going to get it right so just get out of the way and leave the towels for me. I even have them color coordinated and segregated according to color. Each person has their own color... so boy can I relate. Same with soap placement, though mine is on the left because everyone is a righty... nevermind, it's weird logic. I am not a packrat and everything has it's place. I spent too many years with a man who was a junk fiend, packrat and couldn't put anything away!!!

This is probably why it took me forever to find a salon I truly love...

I'm funny about the towels too! I guess they're just so many & they need to be the same. But, there's always someone who wants to do it THEIR WAY! HA!!

Now, the smoking thing...I've been lucky so far I've not hired a smoker. But I hate when a smoker comes in that just put out their cigarette & they reek of that cigarette smell that they probably can't even smell. My throat closes up & the person stinks & they don't even know it! So, I would have a hard time with an employee smelling like that. But, if I did allow them to smoke they would go out back, not out front & they better figure out a way that I can't smell it on them!

Rule #6 is acceptable.
Color coded boxes is a little bit over the edge. If the calculator keeps disappearing, there is this neat one that is flat plastic with an LCD display that I have glued to the facing away from client view. I'd like to see em try and pull it off.

Wow... so many rules.
It's like this, when you're the owner (or the one making the mortgage or the rent payments), and you've plopped down a good portion of your life and savings, then whatever rules you make are RIGHT even if others consider them quirky.
But, how to fold towels... Well... I agree.
If you have a special way to fold towels, and it makes them easier to handle, stack and collect - then they should be that way. I bet I am as picky about how a room looks, as you guys are about folding towels.
