As a salon owner the FDA requires you to provide protective eyewear to your tanners; however, enforcing its use is another story. Salon owners need to thoroughly explain the consequences of not wearing protective eyewear.

We normally won't enter a customer into a unit without at least seeing that the customer has eye protection with them. If they don't we offer to sell them a pair. Your right chip, we can't "make" them wear them. We have no control over what that customer does once they are in the room. We post literature and posters on the importance of eye protection.I currently have night blindness. I have used eye protection in the past 3 years I have been in the business, but prior to that I was like everyone else and didn't want to look like a raccoon!I hope that every salon reinterates the importance of this low cost but important protection for their customers but more so educate your staff. ------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

It's not our fault if we provide eyewear and the customer chooses not to wear it.Another pointless topic.

even if people know the consequences, they still don't have to do anything about them. If they don't want to wear eye protection they won't and no one can force them to. It is good to have warnings posted, but whether they choose to or not, its their decision.solid

We have a young lady who we know doesn't wear eyewear. Is there any information that might "scare" her into wearing them without scarring her away from tanning?

Rejuv,Try www.tansource.com This site has links to several different agencies that can help with issues such as this. Brochures, posters, literature, and becoming a member of Smart Tan International is a huge help! They will assist with providing monthly "Smart Tan Tuneups" quiz, posters, and booklets of information to ensure you salon is a professional one.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

One of the owners of Creative Labs in MN(they MFG. tan inc, nitro, inferno, european gold, kona loca, etc...)went temporarily blind from not wearing eyewear. He was very fortunet to regain his site. The long term effects are still to be seen. Quote:Originally posted by Rejuv:We have a young lady who we know doesn't wear eyewear.
