I'm real curious to know if there's been anyone out there who's had their salon go through the last recession back about 10 yrs. ago. If you have, how was business like? Did people still go tanning?

I hate to be a party pooper but:as a salon that is 19 years old next spring, the recession will cause many many salons to fail, in Canada we really never came out of the recession we are still in it.We found in the last one sales dropped a lot, people that are concerned about jobs and how they are going to pay rent and still have money for food and electricity don't have cash for sun tanning.I am lucky the suntanning salon is just one business interest for me.If things turn bad with all that has happened 9/11/2001 we are all in for a nasty suprise in more then one way.It was on the news, many more attacts are planed for the comming future, including England that is why they are so fast to come to the USA's support.quote from an old movie:"Hold on it's going to be a bumpy ride"[ September 28, 2001: Message edited by: Chippp ]

Thanks Chipp, I'd rather hear the truth outright than sugar-coated.It was such a coincidence how all this happened on the day me & my partner met up with the leasing agent of the building we finally decided on getting. We were just about to sign on the dotted line that day, but fortunately enough, it had to be put on hold by both parties. After all the research and studying different areas & costs & projections, we are about to commit about $250K into our 2nd salon with the intent of opening in the next month or two. But with all the uncertainty going on, both of us now have cold feet. Big industrial plants around us are now either downsizing, thinking of downsizing, or going belly up. All our financial advisors, accountants, business friends are advising us to put it on hold until everything's over. I know what I think, I know what my partner's view is, now I want to see what other fellow salon owners think.
